I've been recording Simon Rattle's BPO Beethoven cycle on Sky Arts broadcast on successive Thursday mornings between 06:00 and 07:30 but can't find any transmission date for the 9th Symphony. Symphonies 8 & 6 are being aired on December 17 and given the trajectory I'd have expected the 9th on Christmas Eve. However, I've checked the schedule up to New Year's Day and can't find it.

Does anyone know of the transmission date for the 'Choral'?

Perhaps it will be broadcast after the forthcoming slew of 'Christmas specials' and other seasonal fare.

I thought something like the same but was keen not to accidentally miss it!

Nos. 8 and 6 (apparently in that order) at 0600 on December 17th, followed at 0725 by LSO/JEG with Mendelssohn Scottish Symphony and the (Robert?) Schumann Piano Concerto.

I’m not too sure if you can still play this, but the brass band series, Battle of the Bands, was aired recently and was really very good. Captures what the brass band does in the contest scene and other items, that have peculiarities belonging only to the brass band.

I didn't know that, but I suspected that they might have been the same person. I wasn't able to verify that.

That looks great, Bryn - looking forward to it. I would love to dig out a few of those docs they were talking about, but don't think I will be attempting Liberace's Lasagna - 4 types of meat, four types of cheese, (no wonder he had such a grin) and macadamia nuts - loved watching him prepare it, mind you.

It most certainly is, especially when you know Lee's close involvement in the improvised and other experimental music scene.

Recorded (Incidentally if you look on iPlayer for Mark Kermode’s Film Review this week, there’s a reasonably extensive look at the film. He loved it.)

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.

Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Yes, I caught the Kermode item on the BBC News Channel. I have topped and tailed the hard disc recording but am in two minds whether to take out the ads. or keep them in before burning to BD-R.

You do that too? Yes I just chopped away all the Sandersons / programme trailer undergrowth at the start so I’ll be able to hit the film running in due course!
