Exactly. Many people findparkrun very helpful. It’s neither here nor there to me at a personal level, as I do most of my running in my own, but it is a fantastic public health initiative. Kind of what we need right now.

This sounds a teeny-weeny bit like those who claim not being able to read music/being “tone deaf” as badges of honour.

... yep, I'm well proud of not being an enthusiast for ball-games and the like.

        Your point?

Swimming and golf are just made for you then,v. You're on your own - you against the course or the pool; you keep your own score on your own terms and you don't care a fig what the others do. It will still grow on you though!

Today I went back to the pool. This time I did 10 lengths - 4+2+4. Happy about that, but hoping to get back to 20 non-stop if I can. It's a form of physical exercise one can control to relax the old bones but not exhaust.

Sounds as if you are making good progress and enjoying your swimming, P.

Parkrun on hold till the end of July, as some of the permissions were dependent on moving into stage 4.

Oh well, the naysayers will be happy.

I have to say that my tolerance for some aspects of the unnecessarily risk averse behaviour currently required of us has worn terribly thin.

I am a sports fan. I've played various sports over the years, including tennis for 60 years and five a side football weekly for about 25 years. I cycle every day. Park run sounds ghastly to me. No doubt laudable in its aim to get people exercising but an irritant for others using the park. I like swimming in the sea or lakes but enjoy indoor pools much less

Horses for courses. Parkrun works for many people, and can be great for getting people involved but it certainly isn’t my first choice for running. Only ever done about 5.

The complaints about other park users being inconvenienced are IMO mostly very unfair. It is for an hour at 9.00 on Saturday morning. Parkrun organisers go out of their way every week to emphasise courtesy to other users. And of course parkrunners pay council tax too .

This is so true. I've done Parkruns in Rickmansworth, Torbay, Bridlington and Dalby Forest and pleas for consideration for others in the parks/public footpaths/bridleways is a common theme.

I really enjoy the weekly Parkruns and there's a great feeling of camaraderie.

My rather crude writing off of park runs was based on nil experience and one radio report of some people who were annoyed about them so is admittedly of little value or relevance.

One of the things I do enjoy is being able to be in an event where all abilities, from nervous beginners to really excellent runners are genuinely welcome and can participate together.

I’m really looking forward to the restart, will probably go about once a month ......and am confident of hitting some new PBs .

Oh, come on ts use your noggin; excellent runners and nervous beginners are hardly likely to be able to "participate together" for long are they? Unless the excellent runners are forced to run with both legs tied together, their paths are going to very soon take entirely different trajectories!

In reality, the serious athletes are going to get frustrated very quickly at being hampered by those of less athletic prowess, while the lesser lights are just going to feel inadequate In other words, it's a PR stunt of very little long term value in tackling the real issue of an increasingly unfit and overweight society.

Yes, otherwise known as a healthy pursuit greatly enjoyed by a wide range of people, each able to strive and to do their best

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

A ton of drainage stone was delivered today in a builders bag and though palletised couldn't be got into the desired tipping position - shovels were the only answer resulting in more than enough cardio-vascular exercise for a day or two.

A quick 4-mile round trip on the bike before lunch, and before temperatures would become too high for such exertion.
