Getting to the point of the year where it is more difficult to find benign weather for outside exercise. Looks like a morning jog dodging the showers tomorrow.

Got a twinge in my plantar, so need to take it a bit easy.

It's made even more difficult round my way by the fact that the schoolkids come out at 3pm and with five schools along my usual walking route plus the consequent traffic build up it's best to get out before. Afterwards is no good as it's now getting increasingly dark. I tend to go for my walk no matter what the weather unless it's beyond vile (like today) and all I could manage today was a quick scurry down to the shops in the very brief window of opportunity between the hefty showers.

As I am currently suffering from (and have been for the best part of a year) what is known as an Impinged Shoulder (and all the unintended consequences up to and including insomnia because it hurts so bloody much), I've finally been prescribed some exercises by a physio. As a result, the pain, which had seemed to be subsiding, has been 10 times worse.
            Best regards,
            Jonathan

Why DO kids get out of school so early ?

Anyway, good point, during the months of short daylight hours, esp when it is cold, I tend to try to get out in the middle of the day when it is least cold.
Don’t mind running in the cold, but heavy rain is horrible.

Missed this morning's parkrun, as the there's a 10k trail run in Dalby Forest tomorrow, with the title "Defy Dalby", one of four alliterative runs in different forests during the year (Smash Sherwood, etc.). I'm looking forward to it, but it all depends on the weather.

10 K trail run for me tomorrow too, based at Salisbury racecourse . Looking very warm for the time of year. Should be nice and dry under foot. Looking forward to it
                  Enjoy your run, EA.

Yes thanks, about par for me !! Stunning weather , lovely scenery in the Chalke Valley, just about perfect really. Trail runs approx 10 K ( this was 11k) are certainly my favourite kind of running.
                      hope yours went well.

Last weekend, I joined my son to take part in the Brighton Half Marathon 2025. I had bad memories of the Great North Run 2022, having finished it in an embarrassing 2 hrs, 39 minutes. I’d decided to ditch long distances and stick to Parkruns (which I’ve now done on 194 occasions).
But the lure of the half marathon didn’t go away, and I’d moved up to the 75-79 age category, so I decided to brave the distance once again, but without rushing this time.
it all went very well, and I knocked 30 minutes off my previous attempt and was the winner in my age category. My son was much faster, of course, but seemed very proud of his ancient dad.

Magnificent achievement . You’ll be running up Alpine peaks at that rate.

Well done Alpie, thats a fine run. Moving up an age group is one time when getting older is a real plus !! I managed to be first over 60 in a decent sized 14k run last year ,not exactly an elite performance , but nice nonetheless.
Are you planning any more long races?
I have had a succession of niggly achilles and calf injuries which has hammered my fitness, ( took a month off in Jan) but I might try to get back to doing a HM later this year, as , touch wood, I am keeping injury free at the moment. I am keeping to 2 runs a week to allow plenty of recovery time, seems to be working.

Good to hear you are keeping fit. I usually manage a Parkrun and one run midweek. For the half marathon I never did more than 10 miles in training. The extra 3.1 didn't seem so bad. I'm tempted to try the Humber Bridge Half Marathon, but that's only 13 days away - too early.
