Down and out of the US Open .... Not quite!

Somewhat amazingly Andy Murray managed to hang on and win his US open match against Yoshihito Nishioka tonight. We kept waiting for him to go down, and gave up to watch other things, but in the end it seems he managed to win.

Unfortunately, it didn't last long. Rather more surprising is the default of Novak Djokovic. Owing to the absence of Rafa Nadal, and of virtually all the other recent-ish winners, it does mean that there will be a first-time Slam champion, in the men's tournament at least.

In losing to Félix Auger-Aliassime Murray actually scored more games than his next opponent Corentin Moutet (victor over another British hope, Dan Evans) who only got 5 games in three sets. The formidable Félix Auger-Aliassime is a certain future star in the post-Federer/Djokovic/Nadal era.
