Curry's - do NOT buy anything from them for the moment.

They do not have the stock. They will take your money. And that, my friends, is the last that you will hear. It is impossible to get to speak to anyone to chase up your order. DAMHIKT.

You are funding their cashflow. That is illegal. They are making staff redundant, left, right and centre with a generic photocopied notice.

And if you think I am exaggerating, check out their Trustpilot reviews. 67% - 1 star with most people wishing for a Zero star.

    Please pass this on.

My experience with Curry's/PC World has reflected this to some extent, but it sounds as though it's even worse now.

Presumably paying on a viable credit card gives some protection. Doesn't it?

I hope so as I've just asked for a chargeback.

I finally after 5 months got back the money I paid for a washing machine - I was willing to accept that as agreed delivery was just after the lockdown that delivery was impossible - no phone call or letter from them - 2 attempts to phone towards end of lockdown cost me £5 no reply but still charged - after the shops reopened (tho the local one where I ordered it only opened a month later) I finally after 30mins got a reply but all that happened passed onto another at home worker (I could hear her kids) who was it seems dyslexic as couldn't enter my order number for 15mins even after repeated trying then put in another non-answering queue - finally when local shop reopened they spent 45mins on phone to their delivery people - agreed deliver a few days later - no appearance - finally got money back the next week - If any company deserves to go to the wall this is it

Curry's customer service has been notoriously bad for years and I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot disinfected barge pole.

Meanwhile, I'm having a new gas cooker, ordered last week from ao.com, delivered and installed tomorrow, all confirmed by a friendly telephone call from them yesterday. My old cooker is being disconnected and taken away for recycling. All I have to do, they said, is open the door to let them in.

I have only used AO the once but I was very positively impressed by their service. They delivered and installed a new washing machine, capped off the now redundant hot water supply, and took away the defunct previous machine. All within 24 hours of placing the order.

Thanks for warning. Ordered a Delonghi bean to cup coffee machine from them five years ago. It was over £100 cheaper than elsewhere. Came by dpd two days later with no hassle. Still doing great service on a daily basis. Quite expensive but one of the best gadgets we have ever bought. Currys have clearly gone downhill and I will avoid in future.

I learned the hard way, long ago, never to buy from Currys (why the errant apostrophe in the thread title?) other than from current stock and in-store.

The problem is, as with all these well-meaning campaigns, is that if we boycott such a company all we really do is harm the most vulnerable of their employees who will lose their jobs. The bosses will just retire early on ample pensions or find other remunerative employment. If instead we all made an effort to buy more from their shops - avoiding online purchases - we would help the poorest in our communities immensely.

While I can agree with your sentiment here, Bella, I'm afraid that's not how the business world works. The key to any business is their customer base, without them there is no business and no jobs, and no customer is willingly going to repeat a bad experience. If a business keeps their customers happy they will come back for more, if not then they will simply go elsewhere.

Currys have been a byword for the bad experience for so many years that I'm surprised that they still exist.

But buying from shops will only avoid problems(well some of them) if the item is physically available to take away there and then? Otherwise you'll face similar issues with waiting for stock to be delivered, whether to the shop for collection or to the home. Buying from the shop doesn't necessarily help with problems post-purchase either. If the basic model - customer service is of primary importance - is flawed, that infects the whole system whether real or virtual.

I ordered a freezer from a very helpful person in store on 15th March. He said it would be delivered on 1st April, and it was, with social distanced delivering. Absolutely no complaints. So they are not bad all the time. Must be very difficult for them at the moment.

Some stores within national chains offer better 'customer experiences' than others. Some of the staff in our local Argos and Holland & Barretts are pretty unhelpful.

Aren't Currys now part of the PC World group? Also infamous for bad service!
