    Re-registering online

I am close to being at the end of a short fuse: I have, in ONE afternoon, been asked to re-register for EIGHT major links - including the BBC - again and twice on four weeks - Facebook, and three or so other forums I have been involved with for years.

What on earth is going on?

For some reason the cookies are being deleted from your computer. Have your browser settings changed to delete cookies automatically?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Thought about that again. Do you mean you actually have to keep setting up an entire new account ('re-register') for all these websites? That wouldn't be a cookie problem.

More likely cookies at the user's end I suggest.

I changed my power settings to "hibernate" (or sleep or something) after 30 minutes non-use - to cut down on the heat in my box room office, and I had to keep logging in again.

That's what I had assumed. But when I looked again, "re-register", seemed to mean something more than just (the nuisance of) logging in again.

It was just random: used some sites every day several times etc, and wham, out of the blue - re-register request. VERY annoying.
Interestingly within days of one of the regular but dreaded Microsoft updates.............aaaarrgghhh! Seem to cause misery globally, judging by support pages!

This has happened to me too, on a couple of occasions over a long period of time, the latest being earlier this year. On the first occasion our Heavenly Host came back to me and told me that the problem (I forget what it was now) had been solved and I could carry on using my existing credentials - which turned out to be right.

So that was for this forum? There's a log that you asked but I referred it to Andrew/ferney as I was away on holiday. Someone must have given you a dispensation somehow as the username limit here is set to 15 characters. Possibly Mr ferneyhoughgeliebtepwllgwyngyll, though I can't see how to do it - so more likely Andrew worked something out. Or vB can't count very well.

But Draco seems to have a problem with several sites, though not this one. Needing to re-register is a problem with the websites (BBC, Facebook), needing to keep logging in is a problem with the computer/browser.
