I went out soon after 0300, but low cloud in the north until sunrise scotched any sighting. Pretty waning moon, though.

It’s not great at the time for watching these night time displays, these days, unfortunately.

Pre-dawn cloud again here today, but the forecast is for clear weather before dawn on Monday and Tuesday mornings. The comet's closest approach to Earth is on Thursday 23rd.

There's probably too much light pollution for it to be visible here.

It looks like being a perfect sky for comet watching tonight down south. I've found that it's seen best from about 1.30 to 3.30 a.m. (trust me, I'm an insomniac!) Look due north. I would guess that the comet will rise now maybe just west of the North Star. It tracks very slowly east as the Earth rotates. I believe it is decreasing in brightness. When I first saw it on 11 July it was obvious to the naked eye, but more recently I have found that I have had to locate it first with binoculars - but maybe with a clear sky tonight it will be obvious again.

Edit: It's out now at midnight, showing well just right of the Plough, but lower in the sky.

North Hampshire - Comet seen with the aid of image stabilised binoculars at 1230am - 1am ( Mon 20 July ). Not as bright as I expected, but once the position was established it could be observed with the naked eye, though not that easily. Would not have located it in the first instance without binoculars.

Went out before dawn today - but not before enough - the sky too light already. So I've yet to see it but will take heart from VH's and AmpH's posts: thanks! Will try tonight rather than in the morning; but I have to drive to a high point, as I can't see a north horizon from home .

We had a good view here in the south west at about 11.30pm. Then we switched to the opposite horizon to see Saturn and Jupiter.
