I'd managed to largely ignore such posts with no technical assistance. But thanks - I'm now giving the board setting a go as well. This is where the setting is to be found:
"Settings" (on the very top of the web browser page - Next to "Log Out" on far right)
Then
"Edit Ignore List" - on the "My Settings" Box (third box down on the left margin of the screen)
Enter the member's name into the "Ignore list"
Save (might be "OK" as well).

Great news.
I certainly recommend the “ignore” function, which saves me from irritation by a couple of posters...."...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

So that's it, is it? Smiles of relief and complacency all-round?
Censorship and the curtailment of freedom of speech is just fine, is it?
The chief protagonist of which in the current context is now welcomed back warmly, while my own freedom of expression is limited by unstated or ill-defined rules or values of "taste and decency" which this anonymous agent and the moderators seemingly all agreed to uphold. Without any direct communication to me in respect of explanation or (god forbid) apology.
As I consider such values dated and prejudicial and unacceptable and that lack of communication disrespectful, I cannot continue to post here while they remain in place.

Well...
We don’t want to lose valued contributiors to the forum, but the bottom line is that when you join this forum, you do so on the understanding that you abide by the House Rules. That’s the bottom line. Hosts try to be reasonable in interpreting these well-considered guidelines, but they should not be considered a starting point for negotiations.
We can disagree, but let’s not provoke.

I could probably investigate and find out for myself what happens, but thought I would post in case others are wondering too.
Host: please move or copy to the Technical queries thread if more appropriate there.
If posts from Member M are 'ignored', is the original numerical sequence maintained and posts by Member M are simply blank? I ask this because I occasionally post a message with a cross-reference in, and it could be annoying if post #12345 is not the same for everyone.
Is material posted by ignored Member M quoted in another post also ignored, or is the algorithm not that clever?

Tone is just as important as content, don't you think?

"Tone is just as important as content, don't you think?"
which has the implication that if you disagree you are somehow transgressing the unwritten rules
It's (I think ?) a classic "false binary" , reducing things to yes/no when they are more nuanced, which is ironic given that it's alluding to things being more nuanced.
But I don't think this person means that at all. If they did, why start a thread trying to gather support for your view on the use of a particular word under the guise of asking for opinions?
"Tone" is what electric guitarists talk about

... I don't always share MrGG's exuberance of language, but I share his sentiment here. I don't want this forum to diminish into Mrs Grundyism

As for this:as someone who voted Conservative and Leave and who reads the Telegraph and the Times I have sometimes felt as though I have stumbled into the wrong place.
