    Amazon deliveries - getting worse

I've been mostly quite pleased with Amazon deliveries, and particularly during the last few months. However, recently things seem to be going downhill.

One book arrived damaged - but it was quite expensive - over £20 - so I sent it back.
Another has now not arrived on two occasions. The first time I received a notification "handed to resident", while today I was informed "pushed through letterbox". Imaginary products I think. This is appalling - and badly thought out.

I find it a real concern that the Amazon tracking response does not actually have a tick box to say "Not actually << fill in your **** words>> delivered".

I suppose I'll have to track down the telephone number which Amazon seem to keep very well hidden.

Maybe a letter to Jeff Bezos is called for.

Maybe stop ordering stuff from Amazon...

... although it is incredibly useful, I must admit!

Very odd. I found that if I type "customer service" into the Amazon search box on the site, there is a "chat" feature. It is presumably a software robot, but it seems to have some level of understanding. It suggested that the tracking data was submitted too early, and to wait a few more days.

I was unaware that the search box would have that capability.

Looks like Waterstones have the book, but at a higher price, and there's a delivery charge on top of that, which since I have already paid for Amazon Prime I'd be reluctant to pay. Additionally, I did order the Kindle version when the first delivery didn't happen - but I really do want a paper copy.

Not very good amazon service from one of the richest men in the world.

There are a number of excellent and very efficient online book sellers who pay their taxes, and still give great service.

A Great Read and Books etc are genuinely independent businesses, who are well worth supporting. They both also support publishers by actively promoting books. Hive is another excellent independent option.all of them offer very competitive pricing, frequently cheaper than Amazon.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

Thanks for bringing these to our attention.

I have to say that's not been my experience - either you've been unlucky or I've been lucky! (This is a genuine review from an Amazon customer! )

eBay is a good alternative to Amazon IMO. Many of the independent book shops advertise there.

eBay keeps an eye on matters, refunds etc., and offers a money back guarantee (as long as you pay by PayPal, I believe)

I recently has one experience of an Amazon notification that the parcel had been handed to customer when it had actually been left tucked behind a wheelie bin while I was out. Otherwise I have had no significant problems with Amazon deliveries. However, when possible I do try to get deliveries sent to the nearest Amazon Locker (a pleasant 10 minute walk away).

We have hundreds of deliveries from Amazon each year - most work, so on a statistical basis they're good. It's just annoying when things don't work, and the software around the system doesn't actually provide - or not obviously. Amazon is not alone in making it hard to find the customer service number, and a web search for one may find a much more expensive RIP OFF number.

In the past whan I've actually managed to get through to amazon customer service they've mostly been good, though sometimes one has to argue a bit - for example to get the actual return carriage cost, rather than a much lower cost which might just apply in some parts of the UK.

I have found that contacting the seller through the link available for each order usually works very well.

There are rarely problems with sellers but direct purchases from Amazon are sometimes problematic. Watchdog on the One Programme this week highlighted the fact that so many large companies are no longer using email - not named on the programme but Amazon customer services appear to be one of these.

                        Ah, yes.
Contacting Amazon directly is more problematic, that's for sure!

It hasn't been my experience either. I've been a very frequent Amazon customer since 2007 and have had hardly any problems in that time, and those I have had have been down to sellers. I've never had to return anything nor, the odd seller apart, had the need to contact them. Deliveries here are as faultless as can be and I've had no reason for complaint.

The tax thing is a different issue but in 13 years of constant use of Amazon I've been highly satisfied..

Are Amazon treating their staff any better nowadays, anyone know?

You can't have seen the ads, I guess:. Amazon is the fifth emergency service, and is amazing!
