Sadly (and I have supported it) I think it is too late.
We have "leaders" who take an ideological position and had an "opposition" that failed to oppose when the time was right to do so... and this still exists

Lots of things are being slipped in behind our backs and there is no scrutiny.
There is no "mandate" for any of this, there is no "mandate" for Brexit in the first place

sadly this is apparently what people want
    not me
but I'm one of those who has NO representation and NO voice
so I'll carry on doing other things and hope those who voted for this get what they deserve ......

That's my interpretation of what I was told, anyway.
It's a version of polishing the proverbial, and in effect a disincentive to improve production methods to prevent the problem in the first place. Incidentally, although all the attention has focused on the two US biggies - hormone beef and chlorinated chicken, what I have read of the Chinese pork production industry horrified me and I am not convinced there isn't a threat from that direction as well, given the way this so-called government seems headed.

I'm not sure you're right there. There was considerable speculation over there a few days ago about an apparent difficulty descending a ramp and lifting a glass of water to drink. Perhaps he's still taking his medecine?

There was an extremely good article by George Monbiot in The Guardian last week:

Chlorinated chicken is just the start. The government intends to rip down food standards, public services and public protections, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Chlorinated chicken is just the headline grabber - there is much, much more at stake.

*** I do urge people to read the article ***

                  Yes, petitionS signed.
Our local MP in the predominantly farming and tourism area of the Derbyshire Dales, Sarah Dines, is SUPPORTING the lowering of food standards.
According to Hansard at one committee meeting on this topic, she accused the Which? representative of protectionism. Blatant and stupid politicking.
She ignores complaints and comments from her constituents that raise valid points - 95% against the idea on FB last time I looked - on occasion comments are deleted.

V unlikely she will change her mind - I think she is part of a Tory majority who have been told to support a US trade deal at any cost even if it means poisoning the public and destroying the farming economy.

I feel sure I must have signed the Which petition - but it seems to be struggling to get over 200,000. I did just sign the NFU one, which now has over a million signatures.

It really doesn't matter.... sign as many as you can, and keep making your voice louder!

NFU is significant if you consider their usual voting habits....

It's a bit difficult to find via n Inernet search, but "NFU food petition" seems to do the trick.
