The inauguration of the William Hill organ in the Ulster Hall, December 1862, and the appointment of Dr. Edmund Chipp as organist. Also other venues for concerts: the 1840 Music Hall and the use of the Victoria Hall in the 1850s.
It looks uncannily like the old Studio 7 in Manchester, now demolished and superseded by a near-carbon copy over the water.
Is that the HQ9 Media City one? It doesn't sound like Studio 7 does it? On Chandos, 7's recordings often have an engaging sparkle and space; if occasionally a bit studio-clinical.....
Not heard many from MediaCity but it seems closer, darker and bassier.... but maybe its down to engineering choices....
I haven't taken a tape measure to it, but its dimensions look very similar. The baffling on the walls is slightly more sophisticated, and is more easily adjustable - perhaps that would account for the different sonic properties - I haven't noticed it myself. I have recordings from both venues so I'll listen more closely next time. Just listened to Bax 3 (Studio 7). Will compare with Nielsen 5 later (Salford). (But my ears are resembling cloth these days.......)
