    TV Licensing Phishing Scam

Just received an email apparently from TV Licensing, saying 'You need to update your TV Licence billing information today'.

Seemed odd. Look at the URL and it appears to come from a photographic studio, maybe in Brazil.

    Fishing scam, looking very convincing.

I recently received one, too. The "fatal flaw" in the spoof was that I always renew our licence by post, using a cheque, so the likelihood of my email details being known to the TV licensing office is somewhat slim, to say the least! The date was also wrong; ours expires in July, not in February!

If the scammers expended as much energy on legitimate enterprises as they do on scamming I expect they'd be quite successful-pity they don't !

I must be dyslexic! For a second I thought this thread might be about a TV programe on Fishing Licences - probably not the highest priority matter right now.

Just found one of these on my work email - sent yesterday. Obviously a scam - TV licencing do not have my work email. Deleted straight away without opening.

              Thanks for the heads-up!

Had one of these shortly after renewing my licence last year. Fortunately a rather obvious phishing scam.

There were quite a few inaccuracies in the one I’ve seen - most glaringly was the American form of date - 3/29/2020 - inconsistencies with the spelling of licence and the whole thing used very hackneyed English with at least one spelling error.

Not a TV Licencing scam but I've just had an email purporting to be from Gov.uk offering Council Tax refunds. You just have to click on a link...

It's clearly a fake but it's very well done and looks perfectly genuine. The unwary could easily be fooled by it and even I had to look twice. The originating email address is the giveaway. That and the fact that the council do not have my email address and do not communicate that way.

Just thought I'd put out a warning in case anyone else gets it.
