I too am waiting for several parcels, the postal service here (less than 10 miles from York) has been sporadic at best recently, seeming also to be every other day.
    Best regards,
    Jonathan

I ordered a pair of secateurs from Amazon yesterday and they said they would be delivered on Tuesday. They were popped through my letterbox this morning.

It occurred to me the other day, seeing a van doing deliveries in the area, that presumably there is less time wasted doing repeat deliveries since folks are likely to be in to accept them at the first try? Whether that makes any difference to the speed of delivery once the goods are in the system I don't know, because it could mean that fewer drivers are needed in the courier company's view.

My ordinary Royal Mail post (same postwoman) comes an hour earlier, except for the Radio Times which now arrives Wednesday instead of Tuesday. Strange!

I'm due to have an item delivered by Yodel today. Currently the driver is at drop no 18 of 123.
            Busy people......
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

A Hermes delivery which was supposedly going to arrive by 8 pm last night but did not happen. Apparently, it is now "out for delivery" by 8 pm today. I'll believe it when I see it. Fortunately. It's nothing urgently needed, just some 1mm nylon fishing line for stringing up microphones.

A few years ago I ordered a cabinet from ‘Swoon’ furniture, hand-made in India. They kept me informed every step of the way, starting at the village where it was made, then travel to the port. Next were details of the ship, including the captain’s name! I was then able to follow it all the way via a dotted line across seas and oceans, showing windspeed etc., stopping off briefly at Lisbon and thence to London. Courier up the motorways seemed somewhat mundane sfter that. I was quite tempted to order something else for the sheer joy of the journey. Oh, and the cabinet was in perfect condition and just what I wanted.

Shades of the closely watched journeys of those ultra low priced box sets from Am, but intercontinental in your case.......

In this case, the opposite is true. Swoon furniture is quite expensive and beautifully hand-made to order.

Good to know. I'll look them up. It was, of course, the journey I was referring to.

Not wanting to be flippant about a vital subject - in an article in today's Guardian ( be warned, it’s the long read). A business man bought masks from one of the few sources outside China and US, thus available to buy. The seller warned him he needed to take care as there were people spotted lurking outside the factory compound. So he hired security to accompany the HGV vehicle on the way to Johannesburg airport - six men with pistols, rifles, wearing camouflage and vests. “They asked if I wanted machine guns as well. I thought not. We’re not invading Lesotho. Let’s keep it reasonable.”

The long read: The global scramble for this vital item has exposed the harsh realities of international politics and the limits of the free market

A slight recent irritation. I had a recent delivery of some sleepers and bricks to use in the garden, from a well known firm - begins with W. I liked the sleepers so much I wanted to buy more, but now they're only click and collect - doesn't seem to be a delivery option. This despite the fact that other items, some similar, some not at all similar, are available for delivery to my area. Maybe this will change, but it does present a very slight problem. If this is for temporary logistic reasons, then that is understandable, but otherwise it makes me considerably less enamoured of the particular supplier. I'll review this again in a few days. I was reasonably happy to put in another sizeable order, but now I may not put in an order at all. I don't want to have to drive to collect this kind of item, and in any case it may not be a legitimate reason to drive out under the current restrictions.
