Out for delivery

I think I may have at least temporarily solved the medication issue. Some shops/outlets nearby will bring items out to a car, and place them in the boot. We did that last week with a not too distant deli firm, since our home delivery order from Asda wasn't complete, and the van broke down, as previously mentioned. Another approach is to have someone bring the items close to the car, and then allow the occupants to load them into a vehicle. We have a car with a boot, which presumably provides some insulation from the outside world - not perfect, but probably good enough to allow someone to place a bag or box in there.
The pharmacy has agreed that if we park outside and wave, someone will bring the prescription meds out and hopefully into the boot.
However, if this business goes on a lot longer (which it maybe should) and then there's a relaxation of the rules, getting a parking space outside the pharmacy could be a lot more difficult, if many people start behaving as they did before. I think right now there aren't many cars around, so hopefully our strategy will work this time. Probably best to push for postal or home deliveries for the future, if we can get outlets to agree that.

I'm sure your pharmacy observes hygiene to the maximum, so this won't probably apply in your case here, because what you describe sounds like an ideal solution to getting the goods home, and worth bearing in mind when it next comes to renewing my standing prescription at my local pharmacy in a couple of weeks' time.
Re caution. I noticed that the lady who came out with my packet had a complete plastic visor - full face, and appeared to be taking precautions very seriously.
A useful side effect of having to drive to pick up the packet is that the car battery gets a boost, and we have enough petrol to last a long while if the car only goes out once or twice a week. I'm also investigating trickle chargers which work through the car cigarette lighter, to minimise issues which could happen if the battery starts to go flat.
We haven't so far felt it necessary to spray bleach over food - maybe we should. Cardboard and other boxes which arrive are left close to the door for a while - sometimes several days, and then opened and discarded, followed by hand washing. I work on the assumption that most deliveries will have low contamination, and what contamination there is will deteriorate over time. The length of time I/we leave things depends on the packaging, and what the items are. I also assume that the interior "stuff" will probably be OK, having been in the package for days, and possibly (but not guaranteed) packed under clean conditions.

I’m waiting for a number of items which are due to be delivered by Royal Mail. However, we haven’t had a postal delivery for over 10 days now, so I’ve no idea when they will actually arrive.
We did receive a delivery of some clothes we had ordered online yesterday, and when checking the pockets of a new coat for Mrs LHC, we found a crisply folded twenty pound note, which was a nice surprise."I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

In better news, the box set of Karajan’s complete recordings on Decca has just arrived. Only £66 for 33 discs, and arrived in just 4 days from Poland. That’s the weekend’s listening sorted."I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone.
