It was the 7-week range that I found rather OTT. To be fair, though, they are being sent from China.

Where else! At least they are small and light so less likely to suffer from competition from more lucrative cargo(PPE?) when filling the containers?

I think I may have at least temporarily solved the medication issue. Some shops/outlets nearby will bring items out to a car, and place them in the boot. We did that last week with a not too distant deli firm, since our home delivery order from Asda wasn't complete, and the van broke down, as previously mentioned. Another approach is to have someone bring the items close to the car, and then allow the occupants to load them into a vehicle. We have a car with a boot, which presumably provides some insulation from the outside world - not perfect, but probably good enough to allow someone to place a bag or box in there.

The pharmacy has agreed that if we park outside and wave, someone will bring the prescription meds out and hopefully into the boot.

However, if this business goes on a lot longer (which it maybe should) and then there's a relaxation of the rules, getting a parking space outside the pharmacy could be a lot more difficult, if many people start behaving as they did before. I think right now there aren't many cars around, so hopefully our strategy will work this time. Probably best to push for postal or home deliveries for the future, if we can get outlets to agree that.

I'm making sure to spray over food merchandise each time I return from shopping, using my dilution of bleach and water, and also my back pack, and then doing the handwashing and face washing. I'm sure your pharmacy observes hygiene to the maximum, so this won't probably apply in your case here, because what you describe sounds like an ideal solution to getting the goods home, and worth bearing in mind when it next comes to renewing my standing prescription at my local pharmacy in a couple of weeks' time.

It worked. There are some car park spaces outside the pharmacy, and a couple of loading spaces just a fraction further on. It would actually make sense for the future if the space outside the pharmacy could be marked as reserved for loading, as there were still cars parked in the spaces up to that. Maybe some thought about road markings would help for the future, if this kind of issue is going to go on for a long while. I will actually try to initiate supplies by post or drop by delivery for the next issue - but that shouldn't be for a couple of months. Now that I think there's an issue, I will start doing that soon. Maybe you've got time to get a postal/drop by delivery set up.

Re caution. I noticed that the lady who came out with my packet had a complete plastic visor - full face, and appeared to be taking precautions very seriously.

A useful side effect of having to drive to pick up the packet is that the car battery gets a boost, and we have enough petrol to last a long while if the car only goes out once or twice a week. I'm also investigating trickle chargers which work through the car cigarette lighter, to minimise issues which could happen if the battery starts to go flat.

We haven't so far felt it necessary to spray bleach over food - maybe we should. Cardboard and other boxes which arrive are left close to the door for a while - sometimes several days, and then opened and discarded, followed by hand washing. I work on the assumption that most deliveries will have low contamination, and what contamination there is will deteriorate over time. The length of time I/we leave things depends on the packaging, and what the items are. I also assume that the interior "stuff" will probably be OK, having been in the package for days, and possibly (but not guaranteed) packed under clean conditions.

Not sure if it's the right thread for this, but one working musician can find some drollery.

The Miles family version of Cole Porter’s ‘Where is the life that late I led?’ From the musical ‘Kiss Me Kate’. Sung by Alastair Miles with words, video edit...

I forwarded it on to a friend who sang in an amateur production of the original Cole Porter show. Fun stuff.

I’m waiting for a number of items which are due to be delivered by Royal Mail. However, we haven’t had a postal delivery for over 10 days now, so I’ve no idea when they will actually arrive.

We did receive a delivery of some clothes we had ordered online yesterday, and when checking the pockets of a new coat for Mrs LHC, we found a crisply folded twenty pound note, which was a nice surprise.

In better news, the box set of Karajan’s complete recordings on Decca has just arrived. Only £66 for 33 discs, and arrived in just 4 days from Poland. That’s the weekend’s listening sorted.
