What I resent about the TV licensing people is their pushing us effectively to register on a list of non-watchers. I know it would make their job easier if everyone had to have a licence apart from those who've successfully received exemption , but the fact is that if you don't have a TV you don't have to declare, sign or speak to anyone. Otherwise it's one step towards 'your papers,please...'

Whe we enlarged our house we had two addresses for a while (though they were two halves of the same building) and they wanted us to have two TV licences even though we had only one TV. I think the licence should be allocated to a person , as is, say, a driving licence, not to an address.

But not at £170 pp - good way to solve BBC funding woes but would probably signal mass rejection of TV licences!

Technically, I think it's to a household, rather than to an address, with one person responsible for holding the licence. Once you get them to understand that you are a single household rather than, say, letting one of your relations live in the second house with their family, there should be (ha!) no problem. Perfectly fair, of course, for mum and dad, with three grown-up children all with televisions in their rooms, to pay the same amount as a the single person living next door ...

In other good news the builder has just arrived to continue with the kitchen work. Lunch may be ... a little late today ...
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I will drink to that . I was in the middle of making a second batch of rosehip jelly to be continued this evening. Sunday lunch (Gratin champenois aka approximately tartiflette) will have to be tonight. Or c. 4pm. The builder's WIP will continue or finish, allegedly, on Tuesday or Wednesday.

From this recipe, I'd be very tempted by a veggie version... (I don't think the French would approve though. )

Hope your builder finishes soon & to your satisfaction.

                  .
... a veggie version of a dish predicated on lardons, chaource, crème fleurette wd seem a bit of a challenge!

                  .

                    .
It would only be the lardons that are an issue as vegetarians mostly seem to be OK with dairy products. A vegan version on the other hand would fall into the "I wouldn't start from here " category.

french frank regrets she's unable to lunch today. Or rather she had some left over home made soup which did the trick. Main meal tonight, once the next stage of the jelly-making is completed.

Aunt D: I am vegetarian, but not A Vegetarian. I can't get reblochon for tartiflette locally so rely on chaource and call it gratin champenois. I have a bit of baked gammon leftovers which I shall chop up for lardons, but if you can think of a very tasty substitute for the lardons (can't think what exactly - just not vegetarian 'bacon' strips) to add a bit of exciting flavour and lots of 'erbs it will make a tasty dish.

Builder left at 16.45 and will be back, he hopes, tomorrow afternoon to finish off. He is a as he really has to fit me in between other larger jobs and was inconvenienced through no fault of his own.

For vegetarians, thinly sliced and cooked mushrooms can be substituted for the lardons fumés. For vegans, well, best not to bother.

I've just upgraded to a 4G mobile phone, and my new 2-year contract is cheaper than the previous one.

                            Today is 25 November.

Dare one hope - as there has been no news about it - that they are no longer doing the C*******s C*r*l C*mp*t*t**n?

That would be really good news

It would, but some not so good news is that the BBCS have recorded some pieces (including an Advent antiphon by one of my friends) but apparently they are going to be broadcast at random times so unless he's given warning I'll have to catch up on Sounds. He thought that his was scheduled for 22 December (and I foolishly thought as part of a concert: silly me!) and now thinks Petroc will be slotting it in somewhere. I've no idea if this replaces the carol competition.
