I'm sure ts will have some suggestions.

There seem to be quite new ones a few around at the minute, but it depends on the goodies already on the shelves at Pulcinella Towers I guess.
Not new, but I have had this on my wishlist for a good while.

That and that recent box with all those romantic french women composers, and you”d still have change for a nice bottle of something.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

I dipped into that Biret box when I found a version of the Tippett PC there.
Might investigate the other set you mention, but much more likely to stream these days, so my question was very much tongue in cheek, but directed at seeing what was out there that I might have missed.
The St John's Argo recordings might also get dipped into: have just remembered them being mentioned.

That would certainly not duplicate anything other than his 1953 Rite, which appeared in the big Decca 100th Anniversary box I have.
I'll investigate what's available to stream.

Email just received from my gas supplier asking me to book for a boiler check-up. This shouldn't of course be a good news story, but coming 2 months later than last year - that in itself was four months later than the previous - and following a succession of identical messages advising what to do in the event of something seeming not quite right, at least it's owt rater than nowt.

These days local business supporting bodies never mention radio & TV repair specialists in their publicity mail outs. Soon after coming to live in this part of London I found one such in the locality - a one-man operation in a back alley off Norwood High Street - who was able to rescue a hi-fi I had found dumped in a nearby wood. Unlike a business at my previous address in Essex who charged £60 just to "look under the bonnet" this guy repaired my rescued hi-fi for a tenner, and in two days. So I am overwhelmed with joy to have found him still operating from the same premises. With any luck he will be able to fix a twin cassette unit - a JVC KD-WR90 model - which I have been using since it was gifted to me 16 years ago by my ex-neighbour at the old address. He seemed to think he could do it. With any luck I will not need to splash out loads of dosh on a replacement which will probably involve also having to replace the old 1993 stereo I've been using as the amp - we will see.

Great news: just a month into my summer diet, this morning I discovered that I am already halfway to my weight loss target, which I always set to achieve by the end of September - when I normally revert to hot meals. I celebrated with two slices of toast for my breakfast!

Sounds very similar to a backwoodsman operating from a converted pig sty near Saxtead in Suffolk. An old school electronics engineer who fixes hifi equipment, affordably.

My good news story is that after two months of camping out at a friend’s flat we finally found a place to live about ten days ago and moved in yesterday. It was getting to the point of thinking we’d have to take anything vaguely inhabitable but in the end things have worked out much better than that. So far anyway.

Well done, S_A. You've mentioned your summer dietary regime before and my thought was/is I couldn't do that! We eat more or less the same stuff the year round... for me that includes chocolate and cake.

Good news on this front - the repair guy says he has fixed the left hand motor on the double cassette unit and will be able to restore the sound to the right hand channel; all being well I should be able to pick it up on Friday, and the charge for all that work will total around .... £40!!! - which I think is extraordinary. Unfortunately he was unable to restore the right hand motor which has seized up: apparently it's not possible to obtain a replacement motor as they're not manufacturing that particular model any more. He could un-seize the existing motor but it wouldn't be expected to last any time.

So there is no doubt, one just has to be thankful for the fact that such dedicated people still exist, as unlikely as it may seem in our chuck away age - see The Repair Shop on BBC1 as another wonderful exemplar - and that this one is so generous in what he charges.

Our community trust runs a monthly Repair Cafe. I've never taken anything so I don't know quite what their level of competence is. I'm thinking of taking a toaster which I don't use anyway but as I think it might be a minor adjustment I might take it to have a look round.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
