"God Save the Queen" too short, says Lewis Hamilton

Personally I think our dirge of a national anthem is quite long enough, but I can see his point. I wouldn't object to a longer anthem if only it was a more interesting one. Personally, I'm in favour of "Jerusalem."

Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.

Given the words, I would suggest that Jerusalem is more an English anthem than a British one.

but isn't that the one that will be required within the next decade or so after the Celtic 'fringes' now they have been denuded of any oil, industry etc are 'reluctantly' let go by London

Well, at least it doesn't mention crushing rebellious Scots, as one verse of God save the Queen does.

National anthems? Who needs them anyway? They're relics of a bellicose and/or vainglorious past. Bin 'em all, I say.

Oh come on, Mary, we Scots simply love rebelling against the English and then, afterwards, expertly de-crushing ourselves for the next glorious attempt at rebellion ...

Is that the Grewish "we"? I ask only because I've never done that kind of thing myself...

If we have to continue to have one, Fairest Isle might do the trick, although even that would need a little tweaking of the words, methinks. Jerusalem? No insult to its author, but I'm not quite sure what the Islamic community would make of that...

Actually I think that the races are too long. Surely it would be enough to have a couple of laps, & then play them on a continuous loop for a couple of hours (or however long it takes for everyone to fall asleep)

Seriously though, what IS the English national anthem?

Oh dear, oh dear. SOOO predictable!

If you had watched last weekend's German Grand Prix, which Lewis Hamilton won in such fine style, you would understand why the above comment is so ridiculous. Or indeed the Canadian GP of a few weeks ago, which Jenson Button won on the very last lap. Or the Brazilian GP of 2008, where Lewis Hamilton won the World Championship on the last corner of the last lap.

I am often accused of finding cricket deadly boring because I do not appreciate the subtleties of the game, and that is probably quite right, but the same applies to Formula one. There is so much more to it than some people understand. You do need a certain amount of brain capacity to fully enjoy it, which some here are clearly lacking.
