Listening as one was to Michael Portillo smugly (as is his wont) rounding off the first of his R4 two-part apologium for capitalism this morning, I wondered - are others extracting a ton these days from the local lolly machine too, rather than the usual 50 squid shopping change? If the banks do look on the point of collapse, and mass panic withdrawals see queues down the high street of account holders carrying large suitcases, how many muggers will be lurking in opportunistic wait around bank entrances?

... like a pork belly i should think .... quick high temparture flame in the wok, then simmer for a half hour or more [especially bankers] and then smother in soy and sugar syrup and roast for another half hour ... thrice cooked rich ... don't forget onions garlic etc ...

It is the same economists isn't it. The same bankers. The same politicians and the same civil servants. The same international organisations and the same secret societies.

The view appears to be that those who built the maze and took us into it are the only ones able to get us out of it. I disagree. We need to get some new folk into helicopters to survey the situation.

If there is a nuclear problem there, perhaps we should close it all down. Seriously. Even if it means that those stuck in the hedges are entombed in concrete with the contamination.

We also need to get another set of folk building with all the energy of those who built the pyramids. But not pyramids this time obviously. Anything but pyramids.

How far is the Co-op embroiled in all of this? We need a new bank that is un-embroiled.

Don't know but it is in people's own hands, at least in Britain. They just won't do it. Those who still have savings. The interest rates are ridiculously low wherever you invest. You can't stick a cigarette paper between any of them.

So the nation en masse on one specified day should take out all the money they have in the typical high street whatevers. Stick it instead in the Coop, the mutual building societies and/or National Savings. That way you end all of the dodgier dealing overnight. A Facebook campaign might be helpful. How about 5 November?

....The other part of the equation is:

                          (a) Cease Parliamentary elections

                          (b) Begin elections for positions in the senior civil service and other senior positions

                          (c) Begin a process of random selection of Parliamentary representatives exactly along the same lines as is done with Jury Service - one third chosen every two years, no one to serve more than two terms

It is so obvious I just don't understand why we aren't doing it.

good question. (and also that's my bank)

i've been wondering if some of the less reknowned orgs, building socs, co-ops, even credit unions, might have an untold story that they're sitting on?

i went to put a cheque in the co-op, mid day lasy week, and the automatic doors wouldn't open ....i said 'oh i thought you'd closed' and a member of staff said sourly 'not yet'. she was not referring to 5pm closing time either, as it was lunch time.

.....That man with the two women and a stolen cat. I didn't think I was going to like him. Sounded like a nutter.

Anyhow, I've spent the last hour watching him on You Tube videos. He's clearly a bit "different" but he is genuinely very bright. In fact, astonishingly for an MP, he seems to be someone of substance.

Perhaps he could help solve all the economic problems.

the reason we don't do these things you already know....the people at the top don't want them to happen, and the current system maintains the status quo very nicely.
Seriously, why do we still have tiny elites controlling land, banks, administration, politics etc? why do we still have a monarchy?
how many judges or top bankers went to comprehensive schools?
