Last night I heard a rumour in the showers at the gym that the Champions' League might be ruled out for English clubs now that we are not a EU country (they said Scottish clubs will be allowed in for their customary 3 or 4 games and Welsh and NI clubs don't count). I was alarmed at this and wanted to ask for further and better particulars but, it's not the done thing to talk to people you don't know in the shower. I waited in the foyer when I was dressed, but to my chagrin I'd missed the guys who were having the chat. Has anyone heard about this? Is there any truth in it?

Turkish clubs play in the Champions League although Turkey isn't in the EU.

Also, even if we still are “in” some of the smaller institutions (which I don’t know for sure), enormous damage has already been done, and degrees of cooperation and participation have already tumbled to freezing point in some, I believe. It may take years to get back to a reasonable level of cooperation. What a disaster!

So perhaps we will be allowed to stay in it ....

Yes, a total disaster. We've already lost so many things that can never be got back and we've only been out two days. And the problem is Europeans quite understandably don't trust us anymore, so it will be impossible to build things back up. And as someone has already said on this forum, they will certainly try to justifiably burn our flag. I'd even do it myself - it's justified. This has got to be the stupidest thing any country has ever done in known history.

If the qualifying factor is 'european country' rather than 'EU country'. What presumably could cause difficulties is the international nature of football teams and visa implications?

Did you hear this at your local Turkish baths?

Central Asian countries can choose between UEFA and the Asian federation I think.

We might yet get the option to join Concacaf.

I assume we are still in Euromillions?

Maybe I'm just not bearing up under the pressure - everything seems to be going into meltdown since we left. I knew this would happen.

As do Russia, Norway and Switzerland.

I suspect that it is now that the real problems of confusion(eg EU v European), misunderstanding/lack of knowledge, misinformation(deliberate or otherwise) will make themselves felt - and that's just the politicians...
Finding, through internet searches for various topics, that educational establishments, businesses etc are in many cases unable to give full information on what will happen this year, let alone beyond December 2020, because they haven't been given it(ie doesn't exist I assume) is not reassuring. For issues like Erasmus placements and EU students much seems to depend on 'Government guarantees' - like I said, not reassuring.

The govt excuse will always be, "We can't give out too much information (to enable businesses etc to plan ahead) because to do so would reveal our negotiating strategy".

Far more blanket coverage of tennis and snooker on BBC than football, except for the FA Cup . Fanaticism about football is possibly even more extreme in other
EU countries. In Spain there used to be a "Question Time" type football programme at peak hours on Sunday evening.

I think "Brits" will need eventually need a euro visa to watch or play sport in the EU. I presume some kind of holiday visa is needed for Turkey already.

PS This is one view https://www.simoncalder.co.uk/travel...an-travellers/

The suggestion that the governments of Spain, Greece, Portugal, etc would single out Britons for tougher treatment at the border is far-fetched. We will simply continue to show our passports on arrival, as we do now – as the UK is outside the Schengen Area

We do have 2 'Authentic Turkish Barbers' in our main street, but I don't fancy having my eyebrows singed and am lucky enough to have a very skilled in-house coiffeuse.
