        From today's Grauniad:

Philip Pullman calls for boycott of Brexit 50p coin over 'missing' Oxford comma

Critics fume over the omission of Oxford comma from phrase ‘Peace, prosperity and friendship’ as new coin enters circulation

I like the suggestion that we all (all Remainers) save them in a humbug jar to take them quickly out of circulation.

An understandable suggestion (especially the humbug bit) but one that could beome quite expensive if followed on every possible occasion...

And you'd never be able to store your humbugs in that jar again!

I don't get many 50p pieces in change, but am certainly tempted to keep the Brexit ones somewhere, and annoy the bank when I have £10 of them to pay in. Not the bank's fault, though, and that would only put them back in circulation.

...which might be a problem if I had such a jar with such things in it!...

Maybe a better idea would be for eveyone to save to some pre-agreed secure central location every one that they get and then pay the lot over NHS as soon as they reach a total of £350m...

I intend using my debit card for every transaction so, hopefully, will never see one!

I've used my credit card for almost all transactions for years and PayPal on the odd instances where credit cads aren't accepted but, even then, there are occasions when only cash will do...

Another excellent idea - as is giving them to the NHS as they won't be getting the £350 million a week .

I can see what he's getting at, but for me there is a far more basic question - just what is the point of that phrase? Is it supposed to brainwash the unbelievers into adopting the official lie by constant contact; given the rise in non-cash transactions that's not the best idea. In view of the effects and question marks of Brexit on peace, prosperity and friendship within the UK and NI, how is a wonky bit of metal going to make things better out there in the big wide world "with all nations"- a world which won't even see it or use it. Who is PM Johnson-Cummings trying to convince?
I wish I could refuse to accept them in change but given the kind of shopping I do that's impractical, so I think they'll be quarantined so at least I don't have to proffer them as payment. If I get enough they can be returned to a bank.

just let the b*x*s have their half quid's worth of gloat - I suspect they are not going to get much pleasure out of the next few years as what remains of the UK acts as a punch bag between a Trumpted up USA and a combination of French autocracy + an increasingly rightwing neoPrussia
