    The new Brexit 50p coin

Am I right in thinking that the date on the new Brexit coin is given as '31. January 2020', which is not very British?

Well it reads: '31 January 2020' with no 'st'

What an investment. It’ll be worth 40p before you know it.

Are we allowed to refuse one if it's given in change?

I suspect not. The same argument as for Scottish fivers. Legal tender.

A pedant writes: Scottish fivers are not legal tender. Neither are British fivers. Legal tender deals only with coins of the realm. Scottish and Northern Irish notes of all denominations are though to be treated on the same basis as British ones.

I gather all the ones minted for our October exit had to be melted down!

Bet your life, a few escaped for numismatists to fight over in years to come.

Of course we are - we can resuse any coin/note offered us in change. The shopkeeper is under no obligation to offer us an alternative of equal value, though - so it might come down to how much we're prepared to put our principles before our pockets.

I might save them up and find some worthy cause (NOT the local Conservative Club or Wetherspoon) to give them to!

Is that a 'BEST BEFORE' date?

Or "Do not re-freeze this product once it has been thawed"!

But you could melt it down and reissue it, I suspect.

As an ardent remainer, I'm looking to buy up all Brexit 50p pieces and take them out of circulation. PM me on how to send them to me (to defray my costs I can only offer 25p - but its for a good cause, so no need to feel ripped off).

                              I beg leave …

I was going to suggest that our local Waitrose put charity boxes around the store so that people could donate them. Perhaps some boxes for Remainers and some for Leavers so that magnanimity could be measured.
