I've just returned from a spell away and the UK is an international laughing stock ........

Throwing away our freedom of movement is a disaster for musicians but I guess you don't really give a toss about music either
Your second faecal emission over my flooring since I joined this forum; medical advice should be sought! As to my musical credentials, a masters degree in musical composition from the Guildhall of Music & Drama was handed to me a good many years ago, but whether that qualifies me for "giving a toss" (presumably of a Brexit 50p coin....) I'll leave you and other contributors to decide....

Well it certainly doesn't seem to have given you any empathy with other musicians who are soon going to find their ability to travel and perform (maybe even one of your compositions?) severely compromised if not effectively impossible.

Accepting the outcome with much resignation, and I wanted to and voted to stay IN, I don’t really share any of this bewilderment or antipathy towards this ten bob bit. It’s only a coin, soon forgotten, probably even sooner out of circulation.

It's not just about a coin. It's right-wing triumphalism. Hatred.

No bewilderment. But when realistically (or 'Getting Real') there's nothing to be done to change how things are, one will thankfully gravitate towards any tiny act of rebellion which eases the sense of powerlessness by saying: Not In My Name, or by proclaiming Don't Blame Me: I Voted Remain.

Do your mathematics any way you like, there's no denying that millions and millions of people in the country are profoundly unhappy about this situation and it should never have been left to a weighing of the votes to decide the issue.

Nope. As a remainer I do not make that connection at all.
And, is it fair, for those who would like to refuse to accept the coin at a till, to vent your personal frustration (and I do share your general dissatisfaction with the entire shit-show) towards the checkout staff? Maybe I’m too decent but it’s not something I’m prepared to do - find a more appropriate target.

I'm sure its not that great being paid low wages to serve the British Public. I'm attracted to stockpiling them at home, until the coin design is replaced, then return them via the banks en masse - assuming Pulcinella's analysis on numbers holds up. Start a movement - we need a slogan.....

Maybe you should ask your choir to round up its ticket prices for the next performance, pulci ... in order to avoid any embarrassing incidents

Ah yes, those right wingers Tony Benn, Michael Foot, George Galloway, Jeremy Corbyn. Some things are worth fighting against and some things are not, and a coin is not worth it. Personally, though I accept I am fairly new here, I think this forum would be better without political threads. There are other outlets.

Mm, you could be right, but it does liven things up somewhat...

Personally I couldn't give a f*** about this coin, but I'm very miffed about the lack of an Oxford comma...

This wasn't started as a political thread. However even if topics were very narrowly limited to, for instance music, it would be difficult to exclude politics entirely. There is no compulsion to follow threads that displease, nor indeed to comment on them. I have learnt much about political matters from this forum, and in a much more civilised fashion than 'other outlets'.

'My' threads rarely are, but they usually get hijacked...!

Good plan, but unfortunately already advertised.
We sell ourselves too cheap (cheaply?) at only £7.50, but the committee decided to stick to that for a year, and it has been factored into the budget, despite the cost of the 'prestigious' venue for our next outing, The National Early Music Centre: yes, I know we're singing Leighton, Roderick Williams, and other recent music, as well as our new commission. But I'll have to make sure that whoever handles the ticket money is careful with comments.

Pizza (own toppings on a pre-made base) and a good bottle of Chianti lined up for later.
Partner will be using his Irish passport for his forthcoming trip to Florence, but will have his burgundy UK one in reserve to get back in.
