Autodidiact - which describes Yours Truly pretty much, given that I learned little at school. And polymath, notwithstanding its jack-of-all-trades, master of none implications undoubtedly applying in my case!

One could have fun with this sort of thing!

It being Burns Day today, we had a community event in the local school at lunchtime, with some food and music and art stuff. I got the badgemaker out and offered people the chance to choose their favourite Scots word and put it onto a badge. I was amazed at how many of the oldies got into it. The favourites were: Glaikit (a wee bit stupid), Bahooky (bottom), gallus (confident), Bowfin' (smelly), scunnered (fed up), bizum (pest, nuisance) and wheesht (shut up). Normally it's the kids that want to make badges, but today I had a queue o' auld yins!

Recalcitrant (not that I want to have more such behaviour in class!).

Thinking about it, perhaps 'Please' and 'Thanks' could be in the list too.

That would be "boiling a kettle full of hard water for the second time".

                          Have just remembered

                          Scintillate

because of the other thread. Starry night reminds me of Van Gogh.

                            I have outlived my youthfulness

so a quiet life for me

Where once I used to scintillate

                            Now I sin

                            Till ten past three.
