Tragic death, she could have achieved so much, and could have had an important influence on the music scene and singing styles.

That's a bit of a shock, although I have to say, not unexpected after seeing those clips of her totally out of it in Serbia. I don't know her music at all so cannot say if she could have been an influence on the music scene but she was obviously such a troubled soul and destined for such an end without enormous help and support, which she obviously either didn't get or ignored.
Edit: I don't mean that to sound heartless, it is sad news. Doubly sad that she evidently died alone.Last edited by Guest; 23-07-11, 17:41.

I don't know any of AW's work but a couple of days ago I happened to be listening to the Radio 4 Front Row devoted to an interview with Tony Bennett and he was saying how he had worked with her and very much admired her.
So very sad whenever this happens. Especially with someone so talented and so (seemingly) lost.

She worked in jazz to begin with, and had one or top British jazzers in her band who were given rein to improvise, I remember, albeit on just one number from the Hackney Empire video, but probably against her career pushers, and dug the interaction, more than suggesting she wanted to keep that link. There are lots of reasonably good female jazz singers; Amy had a natural jazzer's timing and way of dealing with lyrics and inflections that some were almost comparing with Billie Holiday. If any of her friends in that field had managed to coax her away from the commercial end of the biz, under supportive management mentorship she could have followed the Jamie Cullum path and kept herself straight.
Very, very sad

Back to Black's the only (of the 2 made) albums I'd owned. If you don't know, Mark Ronson is responsible for the production. A dread-ful, Jacobean, funereal song.
Poor bloody girl and her poor bloody folks.

I hadn't thought too much about her lyrics - Back to Black's the only (of the 2 made) albums I'd owned. If you don't know, Mark Ronson is responsible for the production. A Jacobean, funereal song.
Poor girl.

Interesting that we seem to have have a thread bemoaning the self-inflicted death of a crack-addled, over-hyped celeb, (who as far as I'm aware has never appeared on Radio3) , and yet not a note of sympathy on these boards for the 90 or so innocents shot and blown to pieces in Norway at the hands of a gun-wielding lunatic.
Amy Winehouse had a choice. The victims in Oslo and on Utoya island did not.Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.
