The other critical issue, namely whether it will be possible for China to continue with levels of capitalist growth commensurate with improving lifestyle changes among its general populace (disregarding those of the ever-growing income and owhership gap) in ways non-damaging to its ecological support systems: are they still constructing and opening coal mines, or is the country now moving in the direction of reliance on renewables? I don't know. What one knows is that climatologically and pollution-wise China is suffering; and how long can the government keep on relying on suppressing the rights of ethnic and religious minorities far distant from Beijing, as are about to be shown in tonight's Panorama exposé, before the whole thing blows up in their face?
From "our" point of view, the issue most pressing is "our" dependence on China's continued "success" as a growing capitalist megapower.
