You only pay tax when you make profits/gains on capital in the same way you pay tax on earnings you make by exchanging your labour for £.
It seems that some folks like to have things both ways, the value of a house is capital when it's needed to borrow against and it's not if you sell it.
Surely if you make money you pay tax on the money you make?Fewer Smart things. More smart people.

By the way, you are talking a load of unsubstantiated nonsense about Corbyn being an anti semite .And as regards his relationships with terrorists, some of them would be the self same people who negotiated the GFA .
Not too many leading British government officials have clean hands on matters connected to repressive violence. The Saudis can fill you in on the details if you need them.
These insults divert attention from the double standards that govern Britain’s relationship with rest of the world, says Daniel Finn, author of One Man’s Terrorist

So we're agreed then. No tax rebate for negative equity but an offset to any capital gains tax due on the added value of the property at sale...offset by the costs involved invested into the house to increase its value (and thus tax) and such costs to include a notional 'salary' for all my time spent.Fewer Smart things. Two wrongs don’t make a right , but.......
From an article by G Monbiot
A survey by YouGov for Hope Not Hate discovered that 54% of Conservative party members believe Islam is “generally a threat to the British way of life”. Islamophobia is a genuine majority sentiment within the party, whose leader has repeatedly made racist and Islamophobic statements. This week, I searched Google for mentions of Labour anti-Semitism by the BBC, and found 7810 returns. But a search for BBC mentions of Conservative Islamophobia delivered only 1420 results.
I found this interesting.I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

And if anyone wants to use the term "virtue-signalling" I'm sure we'd all welcome a definition-of-terms....with reference to the current thread of course.....
