Here the constituency system combined with first past the post creates a direct link and may lead to dramatic change. In proportional systems it is much harder to move away from the status quo, there is always some continuity in government regardless of what the voters have to say and those at the top of the list are secure in their positions"
That's quite interesting. The situation in the USA is similar - even though the country is different. Is continuity better than sudden rapid shifts - sometimes based on a knife-edge outcome - and perhaps not even a reliable one?

Both have their frustrations but I think the advantage of PR is that 'everybody gets to keep something'. With FPTP, it's a case of winner take all, loser gets nothing. And it also means a small margin of victory can sign a country up to very radical change, which not every one would have endorsed - as Britain will discover during the course of the next ten or so years.

Anyway, who doesn’t love the muppets?

Good piece by John McDonnell in the Graun today. Just for a moment I found myself in a world where he was our Chancellor, and johnson and his ragbag of oddities were just a fading memory..........

Anyway, its Vote Vote Vote for ....

On the basis that nobody I have voted for has ever been elected, I decided to support the tory candidate...........

                        Definitely worth a punt.

Lucky I read that when I did.
