At a time of national crisis I believe the BBC must be persuaded to desist from its 'Not Backing Britain' policy. The BBC SO has had far too many foreign chief conductors of late (Dorati, Boulez, Rozdhestvensky, Slatkin, Belohlavek and Oramo) and, to add insult to injury, the recommended recording of Elgar's 2nd symphony was by a German orchestra conducted by a man who's a citizizen of Argentina, Israel, Palestine and Spain.
Stop bashing Britain, BBC !

The country's never going to get out of its present mess if we don't compromise. So … I suppose it would be OK to programme the occasional piece by some foreigner chap or chapess, as long as he or she came from one of the few countries we're still friends with, but I think the conductor of the BRITISH Broadcasting Corporation's No. 1 orchestra should, as a rule, be BRITISH. One of very few exceptions would have been the late Andre Previn, who proved his love of this country by training to become a conductor of a London bus. And Bernard Haitink would be acceptable because, like most Dutch people, he speaks better English than many native Brits.

... good point!
And as since 1066 our monarchs have been variously Norman, French, Welsh, Scots, Dutch, and German - but never English - I suggest we only have composers from such nations. Down with the Russkies! No more Spaniards at the Proms!!
Did Magna Carta die in vain???

1) Give us a list of possible candidates...
2) Perhaps first examining their lineage very closely.....

Let's hear it for the beaker folk, and down with these invaders!!
Ancient DNA reveals that the British population was all but wiped out and replaced roughly 4,400 years ago as the Bronze Age Beaker culture moved into Britain.
A Wiltshire boy writes : Hey - what about the autochthonous lot - these new-fangled beakers ain't nuffink compared to what we had at Stonehenge....
At least 90% of the ancestry of Britons was replaced by a wave of migrants, who arrived about 4,500 years ago, say researchers
