    Word of the Day

26 across in the I paper cryptic today was "kakistocracy". I solved it in the end but it was a new one on me. It is defined as "a system of government that is run by the worst, least qualified, and/or most unscrupulous citizens." How could such a state of affairs ever come about?

It's been used quite a lot in the past year/18 months for obvious reasons.Along the same lines I came across 'snollygoster' a little while ago.
