Jayne, I'm not surprised you feel the need to sound off, that's really not what you want or need to have happen is it? Doesn't help the hospital either, having a "missed appointment" - which I hope doesn't go on your record as your fault?
RichardB, these days being told before you get to the hospital can be seen as adequate notice; it's when patients are in, prepped and waiting to go to theatre, then get cancelled that the notice is inadequate...

Calming down, I looked at the detail of the letter. It told me to drink 2 Litres of water before attending, and the same afterward. Despite the high-bicarbonate Badoit mineral water I keep (many 0.5L bottles under the stairs, transferred daily to fridge) to be able to eat anything at all, I only take small sips; there's just no way I can take so much, without "significant discomfort" and even worse arryhthmia. So, back to start.... I'll try to call them in the week if I feel brave enough...
But now for....The Walk! Walking is Good. Lets see how far I get today. There might be Redwings, Fieldfares, Mistle Thrushes again...

The appointment, which I've been waiting for a long time, (through many Kafkaesque phone-consults, letters informing me of phone-consults which never come,, and promises of appointments that disappear like mirages...) on a very limited diet and in almost constant pain since 16/08/21 is for....21/12/21. At "0750 AM". Say again? 0750 AM.
Even if it had come in due time, I would never have been able to make it because of needing bed-rest for the A-Fib.
At one point I tried to get Private GP appt/referral....they were themselves overrun by those coming to them from the lack of NHS responses....
Wonderful old, dear old, poor old NHS! We all know who the true culprits are. We didn't even need the essential and heroic Rachel Clarke to tell us that.
To get another appointment I have to phone, but I know I'll never get through.
Forgive me (as a certain self-ennobling Prime Minister (now usually frowning in self-pity) recently said in a speech about....Peppa Pig...).....
Sometimes, despite my speciality in gallows humour, I just need to sound off....
So I guess I'll just hit the bottle again.
Doesn't some kind of Religious Festival Take place at this time of year?
So there's an excuse....“Music is the best means we have of digesting time." — Igor Stravinsky

I think my heating system has broken down the last couple of days (the good news is that my gas has only cost 18p today as the heating didn't come on this morning or this evening).
Is it possible for the programmer to go wrong as it seems to register an unvarying 18º? The heating is set to come on if the temperature falls below 18º. It certainly doesn't feel like 18º.It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

But you may need to get hold of a specialist technician....

Ah, well, I'll just go to bed early (like every New Year's Eve )It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Good luck getting the logs in.

If it is just that the programmer is transmitting the wrong information, I wonder if I put the temperature at which it's set to come on at below 21º, instead of 18º) that would trigger the boiler - because it definitely isn't 21º at the moment. I shouldn't know if it had worked until tomorrow morning as the heating isn't due to come on again until then (Thank goodness for the logburner).

If so is it worth looking up the make online to see if there is anything of use there? If you look at the front panel of the boiler (on mine it's behind a drop down flap) is there anything amiss there which might have made it unresponsive, possibly as a safety measure. Taking out the battery and re-inserting it might help - the contacts might be less than adequate. If it's a combi boiler does it still come on if hot water is run?
[There is something satisfying about warming the homemade bread and heating the homemade fish soup on top of the stove. It's certainly very warm and snug in the back room so I think I'll wait until tomorrow morning before exploring further.]It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal.
