Tesco are still selling lovely big Perfect Imperfect English apples at 64p for a bag of four - beautifully tasty.

E-scooters.

They're everywhere in London now, and unavoidable. One understands that official trials are mooted for them. Is this a concession to "force majeure"? In other words, the way people are taking to them like litter dropping in the knowledge that there aren't enough police, willing or in numbers, to stop and confiscate them?

Rear-view mirrors just aren't enough - you now need eyes at the back of the head on constant alert: as someone once said, it's wiser now to see where you've been than where you are going. They approach from behind from nowhere in a second, soundless and without warning, and the only guarantee of safety, even if that, is to keep a straight line, whether on foot or bicycle, or expect the consequences. One hears that some e-scooters can do up to 40 mph!!!!

Yes - they're currently busy digging up the perfectly OK tarmac pavement on the hill running past the top of our street to lay paving slabs. Two totally unnecessary days of loud banging and buzzing just as one wants to open the windows and refresh the place. The much-used bus stop has been barricaded off, with no indications of where passengers are supposed to be picked up. When I first moved here 16 years ago the road would be dug up once a year, always at this time. Last year there were four digging operations on the same stretch, owing to an inadequately attended leak, and so far this year two already.

Did you have to fill in a lot of border crossing paperwork?
Back in 2019, for some reason the BBC weather for my town always appeared in Welsh, and if I wanted to find out what the Beeb version was(I mostly rely on Met Office) I had to go through the faff of changing language. Nobody had a reason for it, and I was a couple of times told I must have altered the setting myself, which seemed a strange thing to say to someone living about as far east of Wales as it's possible to go...

The downside to fine weather and permitted outside socialising sadly.
The landlord next door decided that this afternoon would be a good time to tackle the overgrown tree problems I've been asking him to sort out for more than 4 years, so not only chainsaw soundtrack but also I had to stay outside to keep an eye on what he was up to. The tree trunks have been pushing over and breaking my fence panels, and the top growth goes right across the 15 ft width of my garden and had the potential to badly damage several shrubs and small trees in a border when they came down. Missed Early Music show and CE so not very happy but I shall just have to focus on the fact that the dratted things are finally down so I can now sort out the fence and consider replacing the almost fallen over little shed as now I can get one up to the fence line instead of 3ft out and not have to worry about large chunks of buddleia falling on it as has happened in the past.
The impetus for all the activity is that he is selling the house, but that has thrown up a potentially more worrying issue as the survey discovered a crack on their side of the shared chimney stack so I'm waiting to hear what's going to happen with that.

I sympathise with everyone forced to endure their neighbours’ or landlords’ pent up need tor antisocial behaviour. In particular I’m interested in suggestions of really quiet parts of London, or indeed anywhere in England for that matter, other than in the middle of nowhere. Yes, I think the weather tomorrow should reduce the likelihood of human generated noise outside - not just usual Bank Holiday wetness but with the strong possibility of added snow, all energised by "strong northerly winds" for good measure.

....having put away my scarves, gloves, calf length socks and woolies thurs last week and replaced them with my shorts ,sandals, Hawaiian shirts and bikini tops....I feel that it is an afront that the universe plays a cruel trick while giving us cloudless blue skies....
