Good Box Sets and Compilations

I will shortly be going on a cruise and am getting the trusty Ipod repaired. This got me thinking about the classical music that I could pop on it (I'll have my usual selection of Soul, Jazz and spoken word). My classical listening is mainly done via R3 but I do have 1 or 2 albums I would perhaps like some box sets/compilations but of course the quality of these various greatly. I'd be grateful for any recommendations.

My classical tastes lean towards Early Music, Choral and Organ and anything English! (pastoral?)

I can second this, though the Baroque box which you’ll probably see at the bottom of the am.uk page is also good, and the Vivarte boxes are also good to dip into. If you like choral music the box set of Handel oratorios from a year or two back might float your boat (Decca?).

Personally I’d throw in some more modern music as well but the request seemed to veer towards earlier periods. If we take the English music as a hint, there is at least one box of Symphonies by English composers - such as this one - https://smile.amazon.co.uk/British-S...gateway&sr=8-2
which may be “interesting” exploratory listening for a holiday. I’m not insisting you’ll like the pieces, but holidays sometimes give opportunities to listen to new works, and to decide whether to like them or not.

As far as the British scene goes, I’d go for the Previn set of RVW’s symphonies, which has other Orchestral Works as couplings. This is an absolute classic, with the then current LSO Soloists on top form.

Also Sir Andrew Davis’s set of Elgar works.

If you feel like adventuring into the field of chamber music, Brilliant Classics offer excellent 10-CD sets of works by Dvorak and Mendelssohn.
