but suspect it's got something to do with football ?

I think it's a shame that Eurovision is being used as a tool for politics
BUT as Mr Byrne said "same as it ever was"

It IS a microculture of it's own which has little connection to many other musical cultures

I rather liked teamsaint's "vomes", though! That typo (I presume) could have introduced a new word to the English lexicon, one that needs careful definition!

I'm wondering if the choice of Israel for this years competition has anything to do with the BBC's reluctance to shed light of any kind on the Corbyn antisemitism row as being two-sided, including among Jewish people. I could be wrong, of course: how is the locale actually decided? Two members of an Icelandic band due to appear, and barred from having any political content in their presentation, apparently essential to their act, were interviewed on the BBC lunchtime TV news, saying they're not allowed to mention politics at any time, on or even off stage.

Mr. Nigel Farage is campaigning about half a mile down the road from us tonite. I swear if we weren't going to hear the RSNO tonite we would be protesting! The cheeky bugger is charging £2.50 per skull for admission!!

Channel 4 news had a devastating report on Farage last night, where he was followed around, and adamantly stonewalling questions as to how he was being funded, and by whom. (Woops, better be careful there!) I hope enough people who have not chosen to sacrifice their integrity-monitoring antennae managed to see that.

Although the Eurovision Song Contest has rarely managed to avoid politics - you only need to see who does or doesn't vote for Cyprus and how the countries that were part of what was Yugoslavia vote for or against one another - but I must confess that the link between Nigel Farage and tomorrow's 'musical' extravaganza eludes me....
