I don't know how far in advance the dates of these strikes are agreed but that there was to be a strike has been known for a while. Hopefully the fact that Katie and Petroc were happily previewing the forthcoming Proms season last night means that they will be able to continue with their presenting duties tonight.

I've just switched on BBC News24 and it's the same anchorman who was there at about 6am looking as fresh as a daisy. Just shows they don't need all those extra news presenter people.

What I don't understand is why they needed so many people to cover the Cambridges' trip to Canada. Every time the story cropped up the report seemed to be fronted by yet another 'Royal' correspondent. I know it's a big country, but the Duke and Duchess seemed to cope without reserves or substitutes.

Mates of mine at BBC Monitoring were made redundant last month. Full stop – no going back on that. So why the strike NOW? Bit late in the day? Horse – stable door – bolted etc.?
Must say was a bit confused when I switched on R4 at 6.30 am. Blimey, Sunday already?
Anyway, it's only NUJ members striking. I doubt our Katie qualifies.
