People who know me well know I never intend to offend.

That's the problem with the internet isn't it, S_A ? - none of us knows eachother here, unless we also happen to know eachother off line - we merely have a series of impressions based on what people post, what they choose to reveal, or the personae they choose to adopt. How is Padraig supposed to know? I'm making a general point, you understand.

On the other hand, in an online ‘community’ like this forum, we get to know each other as we chose to present ourselves*. I think we can safely say that we do know Serial_Apologist well enough which is not the same thing as we know what she(just in case )/he is like in real life, which is irrelevant as far as the forum is concerned.

Thanks dovers, and I agree. Maybe I'm just thick as opposed to offensive, because if Padraig had stated what it was that I am supposed to have offended him by writing, I might have been able to refute or apologise. That's assuming this isn't all some sort of wind-up. Without some emoticon it can be hard for someone autistic such as me to interpret. Perhaps someone else on here can see and let me know, because I'm damned if I can.

Let's hear it for Greta Thunberg. She has made the cover of Time Magazine. Not bad for a pirralha.

Thunberg seems to be the new hate figure for the right.

My mother's fascist BFF hates her, claims she's 'milking It' and doesn't believe her because 'she's just a kid: and a foreign kid at that!'

Aaron Banks posted a sick tweet about her, expressing the 'light-hearted' hope that she'd meet with an accident on her long voyage to America. Julia Hartley-Brewer and Donald Trump have both mocked her on twitter.

Thunberg's youth will not be excused when the right get their claws out.

I wonder how long she'll be allowed to live till?

I'm surprised that the above, #127, still trumpets its message. It would be a shame for it to stand as the last comment on the thread, so I shall make this my protest.

Well done Bristol. The turn out for Greta was impressive. Enthusiastic crowds of people, young, very young, and less young should surely support Greta's insistent demand for more action by governments. Long may she keep it up, but may she be free from vicious threats and smears which seem to be the favoured weapons of opponents of everything and everyone these days.

                  f f, were you there?

I was overjoyed yesterday to see that Greta Thunberg had met up with Malala Yousoufzai - two of my heroes from among the next generation.

The discussion on Greta on that programme starts at about 35 minutes, BTW.

No, Padraig, but I have been following it keenly from my basket chair
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I definitely intend to get hold of the parents’ book next week when it appears.

                              Families are multivarious miracles...

f f, I'm a bit slow; do you mean you were watching television?; or listening to radio from a comfortable chair?; and, is 'basket chair' significant?

Like greenilex I'll be getting the book. I read the article in the Observer last Sunday, and thanks Dave for the reminder.
