Indeed, but it does let you read more of Green's piece without stumping up for the 'privilege' of doing so.

For that we should be grateful I suppose. I'm all in favour of "following the money" of course, and you don't have to look very closely to see that GT must have some powerful interests backing her (though not significantly powerful in comparison to the military-industrial complex), but nevertheless what she says is true, and the more publicity it gets, the more people might take the issues more seriously, for example when it comes to electing their governments. Also: financial and organisational backing is one thing, but the ability to stand up in the full glare of the global media and use this platform to energise a whole generation of people (and some of their elders) is quite another. I couldn't do that. I certainly couldn't have done it when I was 16.

More importantly, he very obviously didn't acknowledge her presence in the room. He's probably seen more than a few scowls in his time, and he didn't get where he is by worrying about the feelings of young women.

Oh, I don’t know. You/one/we may have done it when you were 16.

Unlke most 16 year olds, Greta has a history comprising Asperger syndrome, OCD, and selective mutism. Perhaps this combination empowered her to focus with laser-like precision on her chosen preoccupation of climate change, at the expense of a variety of interests a non-autistic teenager might enjoy. In The Guardian she is quoted as saying that she sees her Asperger's as a "superpower". It's fair to say a lot of people in history have achieved the extraordinary helped in large part by Asperger's.

Just to lighten the mixture, anyone remember a certain William Hague at a Tory Conference.

They have Matt Ridley as an adviser. He has a degree in zoology and his doctorate was on the mating system of the common pheasant (Phasianus colchicus).

The board consists of an economist, an inventor, an accountant and "Lord" Lawson. Viscount Ridley... yes, erstwhile chairman of Northern Rock I believe, perhaps not someone whose optimistic predictions ought to carry much weight.

The UK seems to have a rash of these nutjob organisations
reminds me a bit of this old favourite

At least the BBC has stopped wheeling out Lawson to spout his b*llshit

Are there any jobs going for pheasant pluckers these days?

'The climate doesn't need awards': Greta Thunberg declines environmental prize
The teen activist implored politicians and people in power to ‘listen to the best available science’ in an Instagram post

I think this is the best thing she has done in this sadly money and fame driven world.

Would that more public figures had the same self-effacement and awareness of the public good.
