    Bon voyage, Greta.
    Indeed.

Have I missed something or is she starting her return journey? Crossing the Atlantic East to West is relatively easy if you take the southern route (e.g. Canaries to Caribbean). The old saw states "Start from Falmouth and sail south until the butter melts, then turn to starboard". You get the Trade Winds that way. Crossing West to East is altogether more tricky as you don't know what the Atlantic weather systems have up their sleeve. However, with modern communications, it's usual to download GRIB files which give you up-to-the-minute forecasts, and you can change course to avoid the nasty lows. Up to a point.

Greta has yet a few more fish to fry. There is a week's programme of events from 20 - 27 September - I'm waiting to see how today went. The latest news I have is that President Trump is not attending the UN Summit, for religious reasons, I believe. Sad.

This Friday, people all over the world will participate in the Global Climate Strike to demand that politicians pay attention to climate change.

Personally, I must try harder. Thank you for reminding me.

                Right on, Greta!

                Hey! who's this I see?

Greta Thunberg briefly crossed paths with Donald Trump at the United Nations in New York on Monday. Thunberg, the Swedish climate activist, fixed Trump with ...

We could surely do with some disclosure: a list of NGOs, busineses and well-heeled individuals who are funding / pulling the strings behind Greta's itinerary (even exploitation/grooming), certainly not something any 16 year-old could single handedly pull off. She has looked decidedely uncomfortable in the spotlight on several occasions. Some of the stuff she is currently spouting in fits of apparent rage is questionable, such as her childhood having been "stolen" (her first public protest was at the age of 15, prior to which even her native Sweden hadn't heard of her) ...it would instead be truer to stay that her generation's future may have been.

Some answers here. I was uncomfortable watching her UN performance, for the reasons you suggest - the rage you mention is an ill-advised development.

I believe she's heading for S America next - I don't think we've been told how she's getting back to this side of the Atlantic. In the meantime I read that two members of the crew who took her out have flown home, a relief crew has flown out to bring the boat home But the flights have been offset, so that's OK.

No doubt the rightwing, climate-change sceptics will be crawling out of the woodwork to trash Greta's passionate and moving truth-to-power speech.

JR, no doubt they will, but you don't need to be right wing or a climate change sceptic (I am neither) to ask these questions. "Passionate and moving" two quite different things - "passionate" refers to her state of mind (I wouldn't presume to comment on that), "moving" to the effect on her audience, which will clearly be mixed. If you take the trouble to read the article, I'd like to know which bits are inaccurate. It is not to question Greta's sincerity to examine the motives and commercial interests of her backers.

One of the comments on that article (which I'll have to fully read later, no time just now) :
"I'm amazed that the Times did not check the facts more thoroughly. One of the sources for this article, Rebecca Weidmo Uvell, is an extreme right wing blogger, and not a journalist. She's on a Crusade against Greta and she makes up stories on rumours, assumptions and sometimes pure incorrect facts. She should not be a source here.

Surely there are organisations who want to ride on the waves of Greta's impact in the media landscape. There is of course green lobby groups as well as there are other lobby groups, like the petrol industry. But this article makes you assume there is a conspiracy and a plan behind Greta if you don't read it thoroughly. And sadly a lot of people don't read articles, they just read the headline which fits into their world view.

Hm. The site of Nigel Lawson's climate change denial outfit, with no scientists on its board.
