Some shops have good deals at the weekend, or weekend only deals. Are older people to be denied their “rights” to support such commercialism?

      Hiya Dave,

Don't shoot the messenger. People can please themselves, of course they can. I do my big shop on Saturday morning.

We can turn it round. Blame all the younger people for blocking up car parks and trains, particularly on week days. Then again, I have suggested I don’t really do “blame”.

I don’t mind when you do your shop, though in answer to Bryn further up, home delivery is often more convenient, and there is a reasonable argument that it’s better for the environment. Does depend where you live, though - not really sensible if you (one) lives just round the corner from the shop(s). One delivery van takes up less space on the road than the cars of the shoppers it displaces.

                Of course!

The growing number of people who use plastic bags to pick up their dog's poo and most probably as no bin is nearby then throw the poo filled bag down on the pavement.

Or, as all too frequently encountered in local unmanaged woodland here, hang them from branches.

Since 13/6/14 it's been illegal for such help-lines to charge more than basic rate, and any excess charges are recoverable. But not all of them know that!

I don't have much to say in favour of Bristol City Council, but where there are green spaces (at least near me) there are not only bags available - theoretically - but also bins in which to place the contents. Today I am feeling particulalry well disposed toward BCC because a road sweeper was out in my street brushing up the litter, just as I was about to pull on my yellow Marigold gloves and go out and collect it all in a black bag. But more useless/gormless are the residents who 'don't have time' to wash the tins, containers &c. which need washing, arrange the correct recyclables together in the right bins, place the nets over the bins to prevent stuff blowing about …
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

What next! I've not seen that but then I rarely loiter in woods.

I've seen those bags of dog poo hanging from railings though.

Tree branches are far, far more common than railings, round these parts.

Lidl staff are utterly useless! They are "multitasking staff" who supposedly stack shelves, price items, and man the tills. But I don't see them stacking shelves, items are always running out, prices are often wrong, and they only man the tills when the mile long queue of yummie mummies doing a months shopping for a family of five cause other shoppers to give up and march to Tesco express. I suspect they are chatting about rap & football in the warehouse, as they are not tied to a till, or on permanent stacking duty, the manager can't check up on them, although I never see the manager, I suspect he's given up and is hiding in the loo.

I did that for a young chap and then his mates popped up and joined him with all their shopping! Never again... this was in Lidl, of course, which has turned queuing into guerrilla warfare. You can see everyone at the back of a long queue watching, and twitching, like snipers expecting a blitzkrieg, then when a till opens there's a mad rush to get to the till first. I can usually beat the weighed down yummy mummies, but the "one item" teenagers are tough to beat without a bit of tripping & blocking.
