Looking back to my original post, I didn't perhaps make it crystal clear that by 'cases' I just meant the boxes of box sets, like this, only blank of course:

Thanks to everyone who replied, especially fhg (are you telepathic, ferney?) and Bryn, who suggested in #12 the nearest thing to what I was looking for, what the firm calls 'Matchbox-style box sets for CDs in wallets'. Like Bryn, though, I'd prefer hinged boxes, and they are a bit pricey, especially as the minimum order seems to be 25 boxes, which will set one back over £50. I think Ferney was right to say that variations in size might make these boxes commercially uneconomic. A pity, as there would be at least three takers in this forum, it seems.

With the canvas covered ones, I write on the spine with a Sharpie pen.

The pockets and cards are listed on this page: https://www.secol.co.uk/products/cd_...archive_system

I think I would experiment by working out what shape piece of cardboard was needed, cutting out some card that was going out for recycling and using Spray Mount to stick lining paper (or wallpaper ) on to it, turning the edges in neatly as for bookbinding.

A great Blue Peter approach ff and more planet-saving than any of the other suggestions.

A broken CD box (it does happen occasionally) might as well be fully opened up to provide a basic template prior to repairing it. The problem then might be sourcing heavy enough card in the recycling to make sturdy enough boxes for future use.

Not those which encase the shoes or boots I buy. Those boxes tend to be made of relatively light card, compared to that used for CD boxes, unless you are thinking of these flimsy affairs sometimes used by Melodiya, e.g.

Some are more robust than others!

Certainly possible to make a Blue Peter box, though my Spray Mount seized up and I had to finish it with Sellotape No sweat, a tiny bit of blood, but no tears either.

The card doesn't need to be very thick as the inside is lined with white paper and the outside with wallpaper lining paper. I used a piece of A4 that was the back cover of a writing block (a few millimetres too short which made it a bit skimpy).

Be great for storing old hard drives that one has taken apart (with an angle grinder or whatever) too.......

Do you have a long memory, team?

Oh yes.......that’s one thing I do have. !! Football scores, old punk bands who made one record, unpaid bets......
( which reminds me, my younger son still owes me a pint from Leicester’s league winning season).
TBF, if we had “ Golden threads” , as some forums do, that one would definitely be in. I can honestly say that I never walk over the Jubilee Bridge without thinking, “ I’d just sling my old hard drive in the river “.

Not very eco friendly, and the security sevices close to hand, but even so......

                            And here it is.....

                            A true classic.

                              Shouldn't it be sticky-backed plastic?
