    Blank cardboard cases for CDs?

Does anyone happen to know whether one can obtain 'blank' versions of the cardboard cases of the sort which come with commercially-produced box sets? The particular reason I ask is that I have, for example, Haydn's London symphonies with Kuijken and La Petite Bande. I bought these as separate discs, five in all, not as a box set, but it would be handy if I could put these, with the liner notes to each CD, in paper sleeves (easily obtainable) and into a box-set type of case. This would halve the storage space needed for the five plastic CD cases, and be more convenient. It could also be done for other CDs in my collection. I've tried googling 'cardboard CD cases' etc. but haven't found anything suitable. Presumably the record companies have a source of supply, but where is it?

Any help would be very gratefully received!

I was only thinking about this about half-an-hour ago, JFLL! It's a topic that's come up before on the Forum (?I think teamsaint also contributed?) but with no positive results

I suppose that, unlike individual CD/DVD sleeves, or the plastic jewel cases that can hold up to 6 discs, such cardboard boxes would need to be different sizes (to hold different numbers of discs) which makes them commercially uneconomic for any company to produce for the public market, especially with the popularity of downloads? A pity: I'd find them really useful.

(And what's happened to paper CD envelopes, come to that - this time last year (or so) they were available everywhere at 1p each; now only available online at a much inflated cost.)

I posted this last week on Bargains - Not CDs ‘In ASDA yesterday and came across some clear plastic CD sleeves, packs of 25 for 30p per pack - I’ve always looked for the paper sleeves previously but these have advantage of holding the booklet as well as the CD provided that the books are not too thick. Great space savers!’
I purchased some time ago some CD storage boxes £2 each from Dunelm ( ts alerted me to these) but which are very good for storing ‘themed’ items from my collection and hold many CDs once shorn of jewl cases, but of course need the paper sleeves or my plasic alternatives within. I suspect it is all part of the demise of CDRs, which are also becoming increasingly expensive. Streaming, downloading, and hard drives having become the order of the day.

No - cardboard boxes (like the ones used by the record companies for all those CD reissues), not sleeves. (You put the CDs into the sleeves, and then multiple CDs into the boxes we're looking for.)

I hope you don't mean these, cloughie:

Quite. I have all but given up on finding such boxes and resorted to using the little multi-disc zip-up cases found, for instance, in 'pound shops'. They are not ideal, by any means, but at least do the job. This sort of thing:

The nearest to what I am looking for that I have found online is at https://www.retrostylemedia.co.uk/sh...kaging-options . However, the box concerned is designed to take jewel-cased CDs and is thus oversized regarding paper-sleeved CDs. There are lots of interesting and useful items on that site, however, including the various slef-adhesive hubs for CDs. I reckon those illustrated below might be usable to 'repair' jewel case trays with broken hub tines.

Why - are they a bit too pretty for you? No they were in plain black or white - I bought some of each and they had a DVD sized model also. I have not visited the store recently - may be discontinued! The zip-type Bryn mentions are mostly OK but occasional the sleeves are a bit tight to fit booklets and sometimes a bit ambitious in the number of filled sleeves and then close the zip. The current Poundland ones seem OK!

I realise that I was speaking out-of-turn, gurne - for which my apologies: I was commenting on what I think JFLL meant by "cases"; what you posted might well have been what was meant.

I have a couple of the zip cases, but for putting on shelves, I'd prefer something I could write a label on the spine, and something which matched the height of the other CDs, and something which didn't fall over when you tried to shelve it edge-on. Apart from that ...

These seem a bit pricey to me but do look to be useful for up to 7 CDs. I'd rather have hinged boxes though.

Is this the sort of box that you are looking for:

OK Mr Picky! The zip cases have the drawback of not being very adhesive for labelling which I’ve got round by using double sided tabs and sellotape covered labels but not too neat!

They do look neat - not clear if the cards are included in the price - I suspect not.
