But they'd have to get together to agree a common standard - and that wouldn't happen unless there is a big(and effective) blunt financial weapon involved.....It's of no interest to the various companies involved and, I suspect, of no particular concern to the majority of supermarket customers, so no demand that has to be considered.
Something that is beginning to irritate me is the decision by my local Coop not to issue receipts, unless asked, for cash transactions. Of the supermarkets I use they have the best record for not making mistakes, but they do sometimes occur, as does an unsatisfactory item, and having a receipt is the quickest way of dealing with it - for them and me. What with packing the goods, finding divi card and my money, not dropping the charity button is enough to be dealing with (especially on days when my hands aren't working well), remembering to ask for a receipt is an extra I could do without. Fortunately I know the staff quite well by now, and they me, so I'm sure I'll manage to get the message across in time....

Worth feeding back to Coop HQ? I'm sure they'd like to know!

Instead of two pages open at the same time, you would have only one using the iPad. Would this not require turning pages even more often? Or do you use the iPad Pro 12.9 in landscape mode?

Well, I don't play any more due to a hand injury but thanks for bringing that up.

Singers don't have to use their hands when singing solo so the page turning thing isn't really the same, is it?

I really hope your singing is better than your people skills.

And the explanation for the Sibelius bit? Feel free to attack the person rather than the issue. I will stick to my assertion that the reflected light is unpleasant.

Light for paper scores is reflected, that from iPads, etc, is transmitted.

Unless, of course, they are wearing glasses.

I find that surprising as, if you're a Coop member, the receipt also details how much 'discount' you've earned and, if you've forgotten your membership card, it has the details you need to ring and have anything added to your balance. I always ask for my receipt in the Coop
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Well, you obviously know more about playing Sibelius orchestral music than I do, so why don't you tell me?

It's a very recent thing, and I imagine the answer to the viewing one's dividend would be the now standard business response of 'create an online account'. If I forget my card I have to ask for a scannable receipt to get the divi added at a later visit.

Where I find problems is if I buy something (say) from LIDL, and take it home. Lidl is one store which offers almost a month for returns, a feature which I use occasionally. Then the issue is to find the receipt from a whole pile, and it helps enormously if the receipts are put into date order. Supermarkets and other stores may be happy not to improve this situation, as it might lead to more customers actually being able to return items for refunds!

However, B&Q provides receipts, and also sends an email with a copy of the receipt. That can be useful.

I do feel better about stores which have reasonable and flexible policies about returns, and I'd be more inclined to buy from such stores than others.

Slightly different are some banks, which also send some transaction slips via email. One I can think of even sends the account number with such transactions, which strikes me as incredibly stupid, given that banks want customers to be careful with account details. Sending details via email just does not seem clever. I know that in theory - according to some banks - the account number and sort code "cannot" be misused, but Jeremy Clarkson managed to prove otherwise by posting his bank details on line, and then watching what happened next.

I do have printed transaction slips, and after a while I will dispose of them securely.

Emailing a receipt is just a ruse to get your email so they can spam you!

I was thinking of everyday grocery type shopping when I made the comment about no demand. For things like electrical appliances etc a receipt is tied to the guarantee and so will be issued by default(for 'real' purchases - I don't know what happens with online ones, presumably it's down to the customer to print off/file?) - especially if there is an add-on warranty to be sold....For such items I have a file where guarantees, instruction manuals and receipts can be kept together. Day to day I have an large old mug into which receipts are stuffed, and gone through when it gets full; most are for food and can be shredded for the compost heap once consumed. The others are put in a drawer in roughly date order and gone through periodically - good job on a grotty weather day or if there's something to listen to that doesn't require all my attention.

I think you've got your cart and horse mixed up.

They get your email when you place an online order. I agree they don't "need" an email id - and it shouldn't be impossible to proceed without one, but in our - haha - "modern" society, if you haven't got a mobile phone and an email id, and - coming next year, a WiMax and an RFID implant, then you don't exist.

I think some firms claim to be more scrupulous, and don't spam you - but simply sell on your details to others who will.

I already don't exist. I have no Fac[il]ebook account, and don't intend getting one. I do have a Twitter account though. That said, I only use it to read other twits' tweets. I do not tweet. Strictly for the birds, that one.
