Any recommendations for a children's mental health charity?

Me and the missus (or is that the missus and I ?) are rewriting our wills and are nominating various charities should we both end up pushing up the daisies at the same time. I'm thinking that one of the charities should be one that specialities in supporting children's mental health especially given the vileness of Faecebook, Twatter and Instergrom with their ability to provide a ready-made bullying platform.

Does anyone have any suggestions ?

Also thinking about starting up an education trust in whatever area we finally end up in. Again, all thoughts welcome.

I always say The Great Ormond Street Hospital is a truly premier institution, looking after the lives of very sick children.

Yes, without a doubt, but I'm after a charity that focusses on mental health.

MIND - With a note to say you wish the bequest to support child mental health?

YoungMinds ( https://youngminds.org.uk/ ) seems to be the specialist charity in this area.

I've worked with them a while back and was very impressed.

              I'd second that.

If you were seeking something music-based, this small charity does some excellent work:

Jessie's Fund helps ill or disabled children, and those with special educational needs, to communicate through the language of music.

I second the nomination of MIND, always v impressed with the work they do, this is based on experience.

Oily Cart are an interesting smaller charity focussing on young people with problems. Max Reinhardt (he of Late Junction ) was a founder and, until last year, musical director; has recently stood down from the board but is still actively involved. It’s his day job.

Just popped back to give an update to say that I had found the charity that fit my brief and see that it's already been recommended here and so absolutely delighted. I came across Young Minds as a result of asking a close friend of mine, who is an NHS psychiatrist (should have asked him in the first place ). He happens to be a Trustee !

Anyway, job done and thanks for all the interest and suggestions.

I'm glad you've found what you wanted. Just a thought(and you may have already dealt with this), in view of the way smaller charities sometimes cease to exist/get subsumed into others , perhaps make clear the specific intention of the bequest, ie children's mental health, to make things easier for your executor(s)?

I too am pleased that you have found what you were looking for.
One of my neighbours is a trustee of Jessie's Fund, so I passed him the link to this thread (which he subsequently passed on to Lesley Schatzberger, Jessie's mum). He was delighted to have such an honourable mention of their work!
I would endorse making clear the intention of the bequest. I have done this even with small monthly direct debits to my old Oxford College and York Minster: both are directed towards musical activities rather than the general fabric.

Very glad to hear it - and can I just say that I hope that the Charity won't benefit from your consideration for many years yet to come!

Or have the audacity to ask how much you are leaving them (which my college did, apparently to help their planning!). That's partly why I changed to supporting them now while I'm alive: I dread being invited to a gaudy of some sort in case the canapés are poisoned or someone approaches me and asks how well I'm feeling!

YoungMinds are a mental health charity for children, young people and their parents, making sure all young people can get the mental health support they need.
