    Friends in vbulletin

The software which supports this site, and some other sites is by vbulletin.

Vbulletin has a friend feature, but does anyone really use it? Is there any point?

I have occasionally been contacted re this - and while not wishing to seem unfriendly I haven’t really been able to see the point.

I can see that some people use it, or have used it, but not many. I don't. There used to be another feature which I switched off: it seemed to allow small groups, a bit like the old French levées or salons, gathered round a presiding hostess (usually), somewhere on the personal pages. I didn't really feel that a gaggle of small sub-groups was what a forum like this should be about. PMs are one thing, but otherwise praise, criticisms, approval/disapproval are best out in the open.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
