Bascially, it can no longer play any BBC radio stations - which was the only reason we got it. DAB & FM reception are terrible in our bit of the Forest of Dean.
The BBC are now insisting that "BBC Sounds App" users link their Alexa & BBC accounts - but it doesn't work for a lot of people, hence no radio. The App currently has over 7000 negative (1 star) reviews out of ~8800.
Bloopers can be quite entertaining, TC's included. I still smile at Patricia Hughes' nightgown story.

The BBC have now resorted to FOUR sets of instructions and a "try them all" suggestion.
The most recent BBC Sounds App reviews are all 1 star, and there are pages of others (sort by date):- Cannot link my smart speaker to BBC Sounds. Been trying since 9th April. Kist cannot be bothered to try any more
- no longer can listen to bbc radio! tells me to link my account everytime i do nothing happens when will you fix this????
- usless
- i have used this everyday for2 years, have linked my acount as it sats to do but now it wont work. please fix
- Was connected, now I'm not. Still taking the money.
- Despite several attempts at linking my bbc account, I cannot get this to work.
- utterly useless and a complete waste of time trying to link the accounts. Had to give it 1 star as there is no option for zero or negative stars.
- Tried & tried & tried to link account - absolutely having none of it. Very disappointing. Very poo Had to give it 1 star to submit review but it does not deserve it
I do scientific hardware / software as a job and have been a network admin, so I hope it's not me
Here's what the BBC Sounds App rating currently looks like:
We've also had the BBC Sounds App "The content doesn’t start, or it stops midway" problem for over a year, and I've reported it 3 times. It may be related to packet sizes being too big (we have a BThub, so MTU & MSS can't be changed), but I haven't got round to checking Network traffic with WireShark - but, frankly, I've lost the will to live re. BBC Sounds App. I've temporarily set up a Raspberry Pi Zero Internet radio.

The only Radio presenter I dislike on radio 3 is Georgia Mann, it's not necessarily what she says but in the way she says it, she has some very strange vocal inflections that become quite irritating! Also she seems to be trying too hard to be droll which seems at odd's with presenting classical music.
Unfortunately it's not long before Essential Classics is switched off when I cant stick her delivery any longer, a shame as the music is excellent. It's always a great relief when Tom McKinney is doing the show.Last edited by Piazolla; 11-05-22, 08:07.

The simple problem is that anyone being over familiar in the cause of making friends on the radio will inevitably put off some listeners sooner or later. It’s the school uniform argument proof for RP, or a form thereof. And why the TTN presenters are so good. And btw they’re perfectly friendly, just not behoven to Twitter or the ‘where do you want to go next O playlisters’ abomination. It’s the format of EC that’s the problem. GM is a quality presenter.

More controversially I think poor presenters should be hammered. Good presenters should provoke no comment whatsoever: they're doing the job they're being paid for. What they're presenting is what's important. I could be wrong, of course, and the BBC could be right: that what people enjoy is celebrity culture. And yes, in the Radio 3 universe, the presenters are celebrities, even if no one else has heard of them.It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

[QUOTE=Bryn;881433]Admittedly, I only actually know a couple of them personally but foad nauseam about the presenters. To me, that shows that something is wrong. I think it was Cormac Rigby who said their job was to 'serve the music'. But the BBC encourages presenters to be personalities - which is why some listeners will like Presenter A, loathe Presenter B and others take the opposing view.It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal.
