Xmas Day: Jenga & Monopoly. No arguments, much fun. I came second out of 11 players (made teams) in Monopoly and Joint first in Jenga from 6 individual players.

I was very proud of myself and my wife got carried away and poured me a large glass of Champagne (from Jackson Frères at three and six a bottle).

      Happy new year!

Board games have returned. This pleases me but I don't have anyone to play them with. I have the originals including Careers which we felt required more thinking than Monopoly as well as depending less on luck. It wasn't well known at the time - 1970s - and much later Waddingtons tried to resurrect it in a new form but it didn't take off. The one that I have in my sideboard was possibly made in the 1950s. Certainly it is no later than the late 1960s. It includes Space Exploration and Uranium Prospecting. I doubt either featured in the later one.

            Oh....here it is:

(Introduced, according to this, in 1955/1957...…….and a lot later simplified, wouldn't you know)

My sister turned up with a new one (to me at least) this Christmas. Sequence. Mainly chance but some element of skill. Different and good fun.

Exploding Kittens - quite fun, bit like Uno but with too many rules.
Arrogance - we enjoyed it - new car game in the making.
Cribbage - my son wanted to learn which gave me an excuse to play it again.
...and a Christmas version of Obama Llama - great fun. Can't tell you what it's called as it has already left the house with its lucky recipient. Just checked and it's called * 'Santa Banter'.

                  * alcohol is a useful addition!

Thursday mornings at the Community Centre: Scrabble, Rummikub, Quirkle, Triominos, Bendominos and Upwords.
Sunday afternoons at home: Scrabble (while listening to RTE Lyric FM).

Rummikub, Quirkle, Triominos, Bendominos - are you sure these are not tablets of some kind?

Mrs PG and I bought 'Ker-Plunk' a couple of years ago. It's fun but takes ages to set up.

Mrs. PG is keen to play chess this year.

No - we're usually pretty well behaved (and as far as I know they don't put anything in the tea/coffee). It's taken me nearly 2 years to become a reasonably proficient exponent of Rummikub.

                            Good game that Rummikub.
We were bought 221b Baker St for xmas, a sort of souped up Sherlock based Cluedo.

                              That is good to hear.

I have now had a look at it - rummy meets mah-jong.

When I first read your post, I thought it said Rumafen, Kwells, Tricyclics and Benzedrine.

                              My apologies for the confusion.
