You're being too kind. More like Sir Prostetnic Vogon Kwaltz.

Shockingly cynical and self-serving. Almost as bad as when she made Boris Johnson Foreign Sec... you see the news feed and think- is this a joke... a mistake.... surely....?

          Is this really shocking ?
Seems like business as usual to me.

It's an awful system, used by our dreadful politicians to prop up a rotten political hierarchy, aided and abetted by the influential upper middle class, and their fellow travellers.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

I'd do away with the whole sorry system.

That would be a shame as there are people who don't get recognised
BUT to give gongs to the likes of Redwood just p*sses all over those who actually do something to make the world a better place.

There are ways of people's contributions to society being recognised without receiving something called the "Order of the British Empire" on the one hand, or joining the rollcall of horrific specimens like Jimmy Savile, Rolf Harris, Cyril Smith etc. on the other.

                    Indeed
a whole rethink would be a good thing

Honours systems seem to be a feature of any country: the French go overboard with them:

The Order of Arts and Letters is interesting. Ringo Starr is on the list, but Boulez and Messiaen don't get a look in.

Regretfully, change to the UK system occurs at paint drying speed.

ed. my original link didn't work: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orders...dals_of_France

... Messiaen was accorded the Grand-croix de la Légion d'honneur *, which wd outrank the ordre des Arts et des Lettres ; the fact that Boulez didn't get any such bauble makes me think he turned them down - I'm sure the French establishment wd have offered...

The vile BUF anti-Semite is mentioned in 61 threads here.
