So they say - if, of course, you can get a fine Roquefort. I was surprised that there seems to be a consensus for a hard salty cheese - even a Parmesan reggiano - I shall have to take advice on that. Sorry wrong thread - this should be on the Cheese Board.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

What goodies did Santa bring you this year?

Amongst various CDs, the complete symphonies of George Lloyd.

A day of beautiful weather, peace and silence, and a wonderful sunset.

We'e been telling our friends for year, 'no presents, please! We already have shelves bursting with 'stuff''. A nice card would be more welcome .'

I bet you won't be able to wait until November to listen to number 10.

I've been streaming them over the past couple of days.
I assume that you have already discovered this website:

It looks like the recording of number 9 will be the same one that appeared on an early BBC MM cover CD (Volume 1, Number 11): BBC Phil recorded 13 November 1984. The liner notes credit Albany Records.

Somewhat belatedly Merry Christmas to you all!

Anyway, for Christmas, I got the last 4 CDs from the Hyperion Romantic Violin Concerto series that I was missing and the latest disc in the ongoing Naxos series of Fibich orchestral works.
                  Best regards,
                  Jonathan

The new Warner Oistrakh box, just loading them onto my computer, can't wait to start listening to the newly available early recordings and to see whether they really have improved the sound of the others.

My local Oxfam shop have an earlier Oistrakh set that was obviously donated by someone who had purchased the latest set. (£45, iirc). I have so many Oistrakh discs that I don’t think I could really justify buying the new edition although I’m very tempted to!

Just out of curiosity, does the Brahms Double under Szell still sound as fierce? I’ve owned it on Lp, cassette, cd and SACD and each has been very hard to listen to.

My wife gave me the letters of Robert Schumann. Read the first few. Eg as an 18 year old student he visited Bavaria and complains about the Catholics down there looking askance at anyone who is not one of them. Also having to share carriages with tailors and all sorts of vagrants.

The 75cd box set of Reinhard Goebel's recordings for Archiv, already mentioned on the Early Music thread. What an absolute treat it is.
