It looks like the recording of number 9 will be the same one that appeared on an early BBC MM cover CD (Volume 1, Number 11): BBC Phil recorded 13 November 1984. The liner notes credit Albany Records.

Just out of curiosity, does the Brahms Double under Szell still sound as fierce? I’ve owned it on Lp, cassette, cd and SACD and each has been very hard to listen to.

My wife gave me the letters of Robert Schumann. Read the first few. Eg as an 18 year old student he visited Bavaria and complains about the Catholics down there looking askance at anyone who is not one of them. Also having to share carriages with tailors and all sorts of vagrants.
