I note that the Beeb is now trying to get one to sign in as soon as one accesses the BBC Sounds pages. Actually, if you do not wish to sign in to check the schedule, you do not need to. Just proceed to the schedule via the 'buttons' towards the upper right of the main "Sounds" page. One can also still 'get_' programmes from the iPlayer without signing in.

Oi! What about me? Make that 4. Radio 3 creates bad vibes for me, in the way it has long done for those who have never listened to it but just know it's all rubbish (except possibly Late Junction).

A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

On the Radio 3 is not a radio station claim - I am with Gurnemanz in post #45, R3 is IMVVHO still a radio station - was there ever a station where people loved every minute of its output ..... ????
As to my bit of fun with cloughers I seem to have started a bit of a referendum ...... with, as ever, Leave winning ......

I used to find the early morning (breakfast) programme lighter listening and after that the mornings were more searching and critical: they're not any more. They're now directed at the "CFM audience which can't stand CFM".It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. Not that I think that no one could direct me towards things I might like; they just don't seem to work for Radio 3 any more

And that's regardless of whether it's IS, SK, PT or, heaven help us, KD doing the 'recommending'. It presupposes a homogeneous audience who either have the identical tastes or, more likely, no tastes at all because they don't have much experience of classical music. Anything that smacks of 'recommendation' or 'trusted guides' is deeply patronising. "in the context of Dvořák's music, this piece is interesting (because …), not often performed, has seldom been recorded, hasn't been played on Radio 3 since 1967 &c &c …". That seems to me to be a more intelligent approach than, "My recommendation for you today is one of Dvořák's Slavonic Dances".

I have heard the word "podcast" from people in the media on perhaps a thousand occasions. Never have I heard the word "podcast" in ordinary everyday conversation. While I accept that my exchanges with the under 30s are generally with sales staff, it isn't as if it doesn't wildly meander and sometimes I am not the one initiating it. The little love with antlers on in Tescos who is a genuine credit to her generation - yes, I'm turning rapidly into my grandfather, born, 1903 - was especially engaging on Halloween this evening along with other topics but never once did she mention podcasts. I feel that this of itself is a clear sign that her stay at the till will be temporary and that she is soon on her way to very much better things.
We agreed incidentally that it has now gone beyond the "it is too American" critique and given life is short and often miserable, good luck to those who want pretty lights and dressing up between summer and Xmas...…I am especially thrilled that amidst the delightful candles in pumpkins, there are so many gigantic spiders with smiley faces in local gardens this year.
Eras come and eras go......John Moore, James Purnell, you name it......transient; here today, gone tomorrow......the world is littered with them.
